A Beautiful Green & Gold Thanksgiving + Free Printables

Green and Gold Thanksgiving Table

With Halloween behind us, and Christmas on the horizon (not to mention at eye level in every store you’ll set foot in from now ’til 2016), I sometimes feel like Thanksgiving gets a tad…overlooked. I mean, it’s hard for a holiday to stand out when it’s sandwiched right between piles of candy and piles of gifts, right? Well… time to change that. :)

There’s so much to love about Thanksgiving already, most of which has to do with those 3 little words… the dinner menu. And since most of our must-have Turkey Day dishes are based on family traditions and personal preference, I thought it would be fun to share some tips for making your Thanksgiving decor LOOK as good as your own awesome menu tastes.

This festive Green & Gold Thanksgiving Theme features a fresh & inviting color palette, simple DIY decor ideas, and a hint of modern-glam. Whoever said Christmas and New Years should get ALL the sparkle?!

And since I’ve partnered with 14 Hands Winery to bring you these tips – AND lots of  free printables! – look out for special ways to deck out those wine glasses too + a tasty Autumn Apple Sangria flavored with cinnamon and apple cider that’s absolutely perfect for Thanksgiving. Here we go!

Glam and Modern Thanksgiving Table Centerpiece + Printables

I love using different types of elements in shades of one color to create a unique display – like the green succulents, pumpkins, and fresh florals pictured above.

The sequin “table runner” is actually just a half yard of sequin fabric that I purchased at a fabric store and folded in half. (The other half yard is being utilized on the drink station.) I’ve used this same yard of fabric time & time again for so many different types of parties… cheers to party decor that can be re-used!

Green and Gold Succulent Centerpiece

Small details are another great way to personalize a design AND make different elements coordinate well together. I used one small sheet of decorative stickers to embellish terracotta pots and mini pumpkins for this centerpiece. Stickers were also used to dress up the wine glasses, which I’ll further explain below… (more…)

Autumn Apple Sangria {with Cinnamon & Apple Cider}

Autumn Apple Sangria

I love a good sangria at any time of year, but when it comes to fall celebrations like Thanksgiving or fall bridal showers, it’s the perfect excuse to use up some of those fresh-picked orchard apples… even if you just picked them up at the grocery store. ;)

This tasty Autumn Apple Sangria recipe calls for both chopped apples and apple cider. There are so many wonderful apple varieties to choose from right now, so feel free to use your personal favorite. This infographic gives a great overview of all the different apple types! I usually lean towards sweeter apples like Fuji, Gala, or Honeycrisp myself.

For the apple cider, this is a great time of year to find fresh-pressed or straight-from-the-farm varieties at the grocery store, but you can also just look for apple juice labeled “unfiltered”, which should be readily available year round.

Scroll down for the recipe details… Cheers!

I’m so excited to partner with Coca-Cola again this month and bring you guys these DIY Coke Bottle Turkeys! This is a fun craft project for Thanksgiving that can be done on your own OR with family & friends… and I’m pretty sure that they’ll add an extra dose of HAPPY to your Thanksgiving either way. ;)

This project does not require any fancy skills – just simple painting, cutting, and gluing.

You’ll find the step-by-step instructions below, as well as a closer view of the free printables, which include the turkey elements (feathers, heads, mini banners) + a set of matching Thanksgiving tent cards.

Thanksgiving Coke Bottle Turkeys - Back View

I also painted some mini pumpkins and gourds at the same time as the Coke bottles, and grouped them with a turkey for a fun & unexpected centerpiece design! I know these colors are a little outside the box for Thanksgiving, but I’ve honestly never been a huge fan of the traditional Turkey Day palettes myself, and thought it would be fun to POP the color a bit!

Homemade Game Day Pretzel Dog Treats {Recipe + Free Chalkboard Style Printables}

Game Day Pretzels for Dogs AND People

As a follow-up to last month’s Game Day Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits featuring a recipe from Petco, I’m excited to bring you another homemade treat idea for your pup! This one was inspired by one of my own favorite game day snacks… the beloved bread pretzel. ❤️

You know how a trip to the movie theater just isn’t the same without popcorn or candy? Well, for me a trip to the stadium just isn’t the same without a warm & doughy bread pretzel. So, I thought it would be fun to create a “one for you and one for me” sort of project featuring pretzel snacks for pets AND pet parents that can be enjoyed on game day… or any day, really!

Let’s start with the pet parents…

Since neither my husband or I had ever made our own bread pretzels before, we decided to go with a mix from a box to make things a little easier. You still have to let the dough rise, form the pretzels, dip them in a boiling water/baking soda mixture, then bake them – so the process is a bit involved, but it’s still doable in about an hour and worth the extra effort, IMHO at least. ;) Here’s how ours turned out:

To make it extra festive for a game day party, I dressed up this pretzel platter with some printable paper details, which you can download for free below. Here’s a closer look at the talk bubbles: (more…)

Halloween Cookie Fun: Oatmeal Scotchie Spiders

Halloween Spider Cookies Recipe with Noodle Legs

I’ve been a little obsessed with mini cookie cups ever since making these Snickerdoodle Caramel Sundaes, and thought it would be fun to experiment with them for Halloween. After scribbling down a few ideas, I settled on SPIDERS because this is the one time of year where I actually kind of welcome these 8 legged “friends”… the cute/crafty ones at least! ;)

Anyways, these cookies are easier to make than they may look at a glance (which is always a good thing, right?!). I used Krusteaz Oatmeal Scotchie Cookie Mix for the base, and mixed in some crushed Butterfingers for an added flavor kick. The cookie cups are topped with more crushed butterfingers and chocolate frosting, then garnished with chow mein noodle legs and candy eyes. The noodles don’t have much flavor so they basically just give some added crunch and don’t really alter the main cookie flavor like a licorice-candy-leg would, which is great!

Scroll down for the step-by-step recipe. You can also visit this post for DIY pics on making cookie cups… and feel free to switch up the flavors if you’d like. These little spiders would taste great in a Snickerdoodle or Peanut Butter cookie cup too!

“About To Hatch” Modern Bird Themed Baby Shower {Operation Shower Event}

modern bird baby shower ideas

I’m so excited to finally share details on the “About to Hatch” event that I designed for Operation Shower earlier this summer! If you’re looking for baby shower inspiration that’s all geometric, bird themed, crafty OR color-blocked, this one’s for you…

Inspired by some sherbet-hued, geometric shower curtains from Target, I thought it would be fun to do take the popular Bird Baby Shower Theme and give it a decidedly MODERN twist. Plus, I was determined to prove to Amy – the chief event planner of Operation Shower who also happens to have a bit of bird-phobia – that we could come up with a bird-centric themed event that even SHE would love. #challengeaccepted ;)

My go-to styling methods of yarn-wrapping and color-blocking definitely played a key role in the decor for this party, from the dressed-up bird houses and “balloon-dipped” wooden eggs to the embellished marquee lights and candle holder “risers”. And of course, there are tons of clever ideas *soaring* from the fabulous dessert table styled by Brittany of GreyGrey Designs… not to mention a buffet of colorful mini desserts that are incredibly “TWEET”!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Shower curtains transformed into table runners and a fun photo booth backdrop
  • Silhouette “Tweet” and “Baby” accents on the giant balloons + DIY geometric paper tassels
  • Playful “About to HATCH” centerpiece fashioned from wall cubes, hand-cut paper details, & more
  • Budget-friendly yarn-wrapped chairs adorned with paper leaves and heart signs
  • Clever painted wreath “bird nest” dessert table backdrop + faux cake covered in patterned papers
  • Painted Birdhouses with paper-covered roofs + candle holders color-blocked with yarn & buttons

Travel-Inspired Cookie Swap & Crafting Party with Krusteaz

cookie crafting party ideas

BAKE TIME: 15 MINUTES
Fifteen minutes, guys! That’s how long we had to turn this hotel ballroom from a totally blank canvas to a fully decorated “party” for the Krusteaz Cookie Swap Session at the 2015 International Food Blogger Conference (IFBC) in Seattle.

I’ve styled my fair share of quick-turn events, but this teensy set-up window was definitely a new challenge for me! I mean, I can barely get myself presentable in 15 minutes, and this room had 10+ tables, gift bags for every chair, a cookie buffet, a stage, etc. But how boring would life be without challenges, right? ;)

Making this happen meant being super aggro about getting all the details done & organized ahead of time (including having the helium tank delivered straight to my hotel room the day before & stuffing gift bags until 2am with the much-appreciated help of Toni and Scarlett!). Thankfully, there were plenty of hands on deck for the morning set-up, because I was at this conference with the rest of the Krusteaz Baker’s Dozen and some of the 360 PR team. Together, we frantically threw placed the table runners, centerpieces, craft supplies, and gift bags onto the tables + got all the giant balloons & banners in place.

giant red letter balloons and 36" balloons

DO TRY THIS AT HOME ;)
Despite the chaotic morning (this session started a little after 10am), I’m so glad it came together in the end, because now I have all this fun cookie party & crafting inspiration to share with you! Speaking of which… you can also find all the free printables that I designed for this event right here.

TRAVEL THEME + SAVOR THE MOMENT
Since our session had both a travel twist and a “Savor the Moment” theme, I scoured HomeGoods for inexpensive travel and clock themed decor. I picked up a mix of anchors, sailboats, airplanes, hourglasses, etc, and gave them all “crafty makeovers” with acrylic paint, custom paper details, and other embellishments:

Free Printables: Cookie Exchange Party & Homemade Gifts

DIY Cookie Packaging Gift Idea & Free Printables from HWTM

Hello, friends! This is where you can find and download all the printables that I designed for the a recent Cookie Swap Conference Session with Krusteaz. I hope you find an excuse to have some fun with these!

You’ll find several different gift tags and patterned paper designs that you can use to make homemade cookie gifts with creative packaging, plus fun extras like party banners, signs, and tent cards to make a party extra festive! Girls-night-in crafting party, anyone? ;) The conference session had a travel twist, so these designs do too… they’d actually make really fun additions to both baking or travel/bon voyage themed parties.

FUN COOKIE GIFT IDEAS
The top image of the “Sailboat Cookie Gift” was one of the DIY packaging ideas I shared at the conference session and is really easy to make! I used a cute paper loaf pan for the sailboat base and a paper triangle and decorative straw for the sail. I recommend hot gluing the sailboat pieces together… although you can use tape and glue dots as well. That’s what we did at the conference session because busting out boatloads of hot glue guns weren’t an option!

We also decorated small round tins and cookie sleeves using these paper designs. I especially loved covering the top of the round tins with the “map” patterned paper design so that they were reminiscent of globes.

Here’s a preview of all the printables… and you’ll find the links to download them directly below!

Cookie Craft Party Printables - Gift Tags

Note: The gift tags pictured above are sized at 3.5×2 (just like a business card). The printable PDFs have 10 gift tags per page. These are technically front/back designs, but you can easily use either side as a gift tag all on its own, or glue the sides together to create a front & back. (more…)

Hipster Halloween Hostess Gifts + Free Printables

Halloween Hostess Gift Idea

As I mentioned in the Hipster Halloween Friend Coke Bottles tutorial featured earlier today, what started out as that one project accidentally morphed into 2 while I was working on it… but I couldn’t resist sharing both, so here we got with Part 2!

For my creative collaboration with Coca-Cola this month, I planned to turn empty glass Coke bottles into fun Halloween decorations, as shown here. During the process of working on that post though, I realized that the printable character faces looked really cute on filled (and unpainted/untreated) Coke bottles as well, and that they would make for a cute “drinkable” homemade gift idea this way…

I fell in love with the idea of surprising a friend or co-worker with an icy cold “Halloween Coke Bottle Friend” that magically appeared on their desk/table – or greeting guests at a Halloween party with a whole crowd of these little “friends”. ;)

HALLOWEEN HOSTESS GIFT
Since I get asked about creative hostess gift ideas quite often, I also designed some matching Halloween gift labels to put on the front of Coca-Cola six-pack carriers. (See first image, above… wouldn’t that be fun to take to a party?!) There’s a different label to coordinate with each character face. So, for example, the Vampire goes the label that reads “You look as THIRSTY as me. Drink up!(more…)

DIY Hipster Halloween Coke Bottles

This post is sponsored by Coca-Cola, who you can now find on Pinterest!

Last month, I had a fun opportunity to visit the World of Coca-Cola museum in Atlanta for the first time, along with a fun group of fellow bloggers. There were some really cool & interesting things to check out there – like the Taste It! room, for example – which was my very favorite part of the museum for obvious reasons. ;) I also REALLY loved looking at all the different Coca-Cola bottle artwork exhibits… there are seriously so many fun things you can do with these bottles plus a little creativity!

And on that note, let’s dress them up for HALLOWEEN today, shall we?

Sunny Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes {+ Free Printables}

pineapple-upside-down-pancakes_1

If you’re a pineapple lover like me, then these Sunny Pineapple Upside Down Pancakes should make you extra happy! They start with pineapple rings cooked in butter and brown sugar, and end with drizzle of maple syrup and a pinch of cinnamon… need I say more? ;)

This recipe is part of my Baker’s Dozen program with Krusteaz, and I used their Buttermilk Pancake Mix, which has always been a staple in our house. Pancakes in general are actually a regular thing around here – they kind of feel synonymous with “weekends” to me these days – so it’s always fun to come up with ways to make them a bit different… like this!

The bright yellow pineapple rings remind me of sunshine too, so I designed some mini “Eat up, sunshine!” party flags that you can hot glue to toothpicks or bamboo skewers to make this breakfast extra special for someone.

You can find the full, print friendly recipe for these pineapple pancakes over on the Krusteaz website, but I wanted to share a quick peek at the process of making them with you here:

An Enchanted FOURest Birthday Party for Twins

toadstool-cookies

Deep in the heart of the woods lies an Enchanted FOURest Twin Birthday Party with glittering fairies, soft patches of moss and a certain large woodland friend… filled with candy! ;)

Danielle Ellis of Gemini Celebrations cleverly found some common ground between her daughter’s love of fairies and her son’s love of squirrels to forge this delightful woodland celebration, which also happens to be perfectly gender neutral. Starting from the most captivating, 3-dimensional forest party invitation and ending with butterfly kisses & birthday wishes, this party definitely feels like a fairytale!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– ‘Four’ cut-out cake topper + the cutest little toadstools & gorgeous invitation-inspired cookies
– DIY moss table runner with miniature wooden logs and bud vases filled with red & yellow flowers
– Woodgrain & ladybug chocolate Oreos, ‘fairy berry’ chocolate strawberries & nutty squirrel snacks
– Homemade squirrel piñata & birdhouse painting activity + woodland creature masks & fairy wings

Homemade Game Day Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits

Football Game Day Dog Biscuits Recipe

Earlier this year, I had a great time dreaming up ideas for a Pet-friendly TAILgate Party for Petco filled with everything from pet-inspired activities to take-home doggy bags! And now that the NFL season is officially in full swing, we thought it would be fun to come up with even more fun ways to celebrate game day with our 4-legged friends… but tailored specifically to FOOTBALL this time. ;)

So, first up are these cute and easy, Game Day Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits. They retain the traditional “dog bone” biscuit shape, but become reminiscent of little footballs with a quick decorating trick. (I also made sure that the peanut butter I used did not contain Xylitol, to be extra safe.) In addition to serving as fun game day treats for your own pet, these would also make for a super thoughtful gift for your fellow pet-AND-football-loving friends!

I used this Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits Recipe from Petco for the base, then piped “football laces” onto each treat using a simple cream cheese based icing, which I’ll further explain below. Here’s a closer look at the process of creating them…

Once you’ve mixed up your biscuit ingredients from the recipe to create the dough, here’s what happens next:

Modern Glam “Down the Rabbit Hole” Graduation Party

down the rabbit hole graduation

If I haven’t said it enough, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favorite themes, I just love how unique, wildly colorful and whimsically creative each party turns out! Makenzie’s Glam “Down the Rabbit Hole” Graduation Party is no exception as Rustic Acres Farm barn is transformed into the marvelous *madness* of Wonderland, appropriately starting with the seriously DREAMY entrance!

Mom and event designer, Jody Wimer of JPC Event Group, fashioned an epic unbirthday bash for her beloved daughter. With the help of Garnish Event Design she combined gold glittery “drink me” letters, rustic keys, chic” tea party” tablescapes, and more classic nods to Wonderland… can you spot them all!?

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Mocktail menu with “The Cheshire Cat” and “The Queen of Hearts” custom drinks
– “Eat Me” open cart salad bar + rustic Southern pie bar with pie pops and wood slice risers
– Gold glitter “2015” jumbo cutout, graphic key cocktail lounge pillows and “pocket” paper mache watch (made by Makenzie for her senior art project!)
– Black and white check dance floor, wooden tables, antique door knob accents and ghost chairs
– Book page table runner atop lush greenery + eclectic purple and green centerpieces and the prettiest ombre purple and gold tassel garland from Studio Mucci overhead!
– Whimsical paper flowers and vibrant C.S. Lewis quote artwork by Jason Flores of “A Little Guilty” displayed in golden frames
