“In Full Bloom” – A French Bistro Inspired Baby Shower

french garden baby shower "in full bloom" theme
Jessica Wilcox of Modern Moments Designs here, and I’m beyond excited to share something extra special with you today… my very own “In Full Bloom” French Baby Shower! As you may or may not know, my husband and I have three little boys and finally, we’ve been blessed with a little girl who will be arriving in July!

I was so excited when my friends Laura and Lindsey of Double Take Event Styling offered to throw me a baby shower. You may remember Laura’s Chevron Stripe Bridal Shower that I helped style last summer. I knew anything they created would be nothing less than fabulous…

baby shower invitation

I came up with the theme “In Full Bloom” because I feel like I am definitely in bloom! I designed the shower invitations myself and knew I didn’t want them to be baby-ish, but instead something that could work for many occasions, from baby showers to bridal showers or weddings.

The girls of Double Take Event Styling were inspired by an outdoor French bistro and wanted the feeling of the party to be soft and feminine. We combined our two ideas and came up with the most beautiful baby shower ever… not that I’m biased or anything! wink ;)

seuss birthday party cake

I’m so excited to be sharing with you this colorful and whimsical Dr. Seuss themed First Birthday party, brought to you by the super talented Laura of Events In The City! Well… guess who’s having their very own baby shower this weekend? Yep. It’s me, Jessica Wilcox of Modern Moments Designs!).

Some of my favorite details from this Seuss birthday party include the teal polka dot gable boxes with hat and fish tags, wall of Cat in the Hat hats, creative food perfect for little ones, and Thing One and Thing Two cupcake toppers… just to name a few. Laura’s right, this party is fit for a king… or a cat that is. ;)

Modern Abby & Elmo First Birthday Party

If taking a trip to Sesame Street means getting to attend this cute and colorful Abby Cadabby and Elmo First Birthday Party by Adriana, then my bags are packed! Nothing could be cuter than this incredible birthday cake (besides the birthday girl herself, of course), which is simply decorated with fondant colored dots, but oh so perfect!

The color palette is spot on with soft shades of pink, purple, red and teal. I’m loving all the polkadot details from the mini suitcase to the bubble wraps. No party is complete without cake pops and this party is no exception. How cute are they? I just have one question for mom. . . how many little ones did you invite to this fabulous birthday bash? Check out that huge table full of incredible party favors. . .wow! ;)

Cute & Clever Children’s Book Theme Baby Shower

book theme baby shower milk and cake

Update: Meleka was kind enough to send over a copy of her {amazing} quiz! Download it here!

Inspired by the joy of classic children’s books, Meleka of MMJ Events created a whole baby shower centered around a collection of everyone’s childhood favorites.

All the inspiration for the food, drinks, and desserts were taken from each children’s classic book ranging from Milk and Cookies (If You Give a Mouse a Cookie), Green Deviled Eggs (Green Eggs and Ham), Meatballs (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), Pink Lemonade (Pinkalicious), Moon Pies (Goodnight Moon), just to name a few. Each table was cleverly decked out with it’s own book theme. I’m loving the “Corduroy” table which happens to be one of my favorite children’s books. As a gift, the guests were encouraged to bring their favorite childhood book to share with the mother-to-be and in lieu of a card to write an inscription in the book to both mother and baby.

Choo Choo! Moo Moo! {Train + Farm Inspired Birthday Party}

All aboard the “Choo Choo” and “Moo Moo” birthday party train express… first stop: cuteness! Inspired by her son’s love for trains and farm animals plus his cute names for them, Xiomara of A Styled Fete seamlessly combined two common party themes: trains and farm animals for one big second birthday bash.

Keeping the party simple, but sweet guests were presented with a colorful array of desserts including horse on a stick cookies and cupcakes with fondant farm animal toppers cleverly being pulled by a train birthday cake. Push pops wrapped in burlap and filled with M&Ms also added to the sweetness. We’re loving the large farm themed paintings that doubled as beautiful backdrops in this quaint classroom. Other favorite details include the kraft filled gable boxes, coloring sheet placemats, and yarn wrapped “Choo Choo” letters.

“Out of This World” Star Wars Birthday Party

star wars yoda cakepops and candy

This STAR WARS party that Julie of Totes in Tow put on for her son Mason’s sixth birthday party is truly Out of This World. . . and very colorful and creative too!

I’m loving all the bright pops of color used here – from the Spacey Shark Cups and Ewok Snacks to the lime green Yoda Soda and marshmallow Yoda and Stormtrooper Imperial Pops. The shimmery star background gave the perfect “space” effect without being over the top. Some of my favorite items have to be the fondant Galactic Cupcake Toppers and the Yoda sandwich cookies, which were made from the Star Wars Heroes & Villains Cookie Cutters purchased at Williams-Sonoma. They were almost too cute to eat! I (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs) was lucky enough to help style the party after Julie did all the hard leg work of coming up with the overall concept, baking, and tracking down all the Star Wars party swag!

Clever “Countdown” Gender Reveal Party

gender reveal party new years drinks and cupcakes

This elegant New Year’s Eve Gender Reveal Party by expectant mom Sarah of Indianapoluxe is absolutely stunning and timeless… and the “countdown” theme is actually relevant for this type of party – or even baby shower – all year round! I (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs) recently threw my own gender reveal party and know how much time and effort goes into planning an event like this.

Gender Reveal parties are such a fun way for the couple-to-be, family, and friends to find out the big news together with a bangand in this case I mean that literally! Sarah used colored fireworks (blue for a boy and pink for a girl) for the big reveal and it doesn’t get much bigger than that!

gender reveal party water bottle decorations

To further personalize the party and pay homage to where it all began (the couple was vacationing in Italy when they found out that they were expecting), they included cannolis along with other yummy desserts in their dessert buffet. The handwritten chalk board signs used throughout are a great addition to this fabulous black & white party. Check out the excitement on the couple’s face before the big reveal. . . . (you’ll have to keep reading to see if it’s a girl or a boy because we’re not telling!)

Free RAINBOW St. Patrick’s Day Printables

You know me (Jessica Wilcox, of Modern Moments Designs) and FREE things! I love to get FREE things and I LOVE to give them even more… so let’s just say that today is your LUCKY Day! I’ve noticed a lack of cute and unique St. Patrick’s Day printables out there… almost everything is your typical green and white. I really wanted to design a new set this year and incorporate a rainbow print and a lot of fun elements.

Pinterest is full of fun Saint Patrick’s Day ideas. Here is my pin board if you want to check any of my pins out. I took inspiration from several of my pins to create these fun free printables that I’m sharing with you today! (Download links are at the bottom of this post…enjoy!)

st. patrick's day rainbow jello, party favors, and pot of gold rolos

First, I wanted to use full-size rollo packs, which I got at Target for $0.79 each. (I also called my local Cash and Carry and they sell boxes of 36 for $22, which would make a great gift for your child’s entire class).

Several ideas I saw incorporated the “loose” rollos, but I thought it would be fun to create a full wrap. I simply unwrapped the old one, grabbed my cute “Pot of Gold at the end of the Rainbow” wrap and used double-sided tape to secure it! Super simple, but super cute! (more…)

GAME ON! Girl vs. Boy Gender Reveal Party

Baby Gender Reveal Party Sign and Buttons

As some of you may know, we (HWTM Blog Contributor, Jessica Wilcox, of Modern Moments Designs) are expecting our fourth child. We already have three amazing boys ranging from two to seven years old. When we found out we were expecting, I immediately started planning a gender reveal party. This is going to be our last child, and I wanted to have fun sharing the good news with all of our friends and family!

Thanks to Pinterest, I was able to come up with some fun ideas! I also had a ton of help from many vendors who were kind enough to donate incredible products that made our party super special. I wanted to stick with your traditional pink and blue color scheme, but I also wanted to make it fun and competitive too. A “Girl versus Boy” theme arose and the planning began…

Incredible Ombre Surf 1st Birthday Brunch

Little Surfer First Birthday Party - Dessert Table & Cake

This stylish OMBRE SURF BIRTHDAY BRUNCH that Ashley of Ashley Rose Photography created for her adorable son Crew is nothing short of incredible! There are so many whimsical, creative details to be found in this darling first birthday party… from the ombre dipped cutlery and hand painted place settings to the large kraft paper photo collage and the shark fin cake pops displayed in trays lined with goldfish. One of my favorite elements has to be the beautifully styled dessert buffet showcasing Crew’s new surfboard and overflowing with incredibly yummy desserts. I also love the stamped muslin bags filled with blue shark gummies (Every surfer’s worst nightmare is much less scary in candy form, right?)! ;)

Tate’s Amazing Tailg8 Football Party

If you’re a football fan (or maybe planning to host a Super Bowl party next weekend!), then get ready to feast your eyes on this incredible party… Brittany of GreyGrey Designs appropriately titled it “Tate’s Tailg8 Party,” since the birthday boy was turning eight. How clever is that? As a Mom of three little boys myself (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs), I can totally appreciate a well styled boys birthday party!

There’s such a classic game-day feel to every detail in this bright football party – from the mini football penalty flag pie pops and the Coach’s cake pops to the creative chenille letterman’s jacket letters that spelled out the birthday boy’s name. I’m especially loving the amazing spread of cleverly titled football foods, complete with it’s own goal post, not to mention the classic color palette, astroturf, cones, and penalty flags used throughout. And the favor table – WOW! There’s so much great football inspiration here that can be tailored to your own favorite team…

Beer Tasting Party Invitations

I’m voting that Liz of The Papered Nest wins the prize for Wife-of-The-Year-Award for this amazing “Pots & Pig” Beer Tasting Party she threw for her husband’s 30th birthday! I know my husband would be in hog heaven, (pun intended, *wink*) if I threw him a party centered around beer + bacon!

Even the party invitations were bottles of beer… what guest wouldn’t like to receive that invite, right? Liz also did a great job including unique beer-related elements throughout the party such as Pubcakes, Beer Caramels, and Guiness Marshmallows. It’s an added bonus that all of those items are sweet too! Creative use of vintage crates, twine, Ball mason jars, chalkboard signs, mini woven baskets, and bundles of wheat topped off this incredible party. Emerson’s Vintage Carnival Birthday Party

December is the most hectic month of my (Jessica Wilcox, Modern Moments Designs) life. Every year, I promise myself it will be easier and I will plan ahead, but without fail, it seems to be crazier than the last. I know many of you feel the same way, and for me “December madness” stems from having two kids with birthdays two weeks apart, being a graphic designer (designing Christmas cards is a full time job in itself), buying presents, and also trying to get ready for Christmas! Wow, I’m tired again just thinking about it all {wink}!

Our youngest son, Emerson, who you might remember from his Office Party First Birthday last year, turned two this month! I’ve been planning a VINTAGE CARNIVAL PARTY for him since last year…

I had my dear friend, Courtney, of Courtney Jade Photography take his photos this summer at Oaks Park, a local amusement park. The photos were amazing and I knew the invitation had to be spectacular too! I designed a four-page double sided booklet style invitation.

I also included a mini envelope in the back full of raffle tickets to get the kids excited! The envelopes were lined with a coordinating striped paper. (The following photos of the finished invitation were taken by me.)

Darling “Little Lamb” First Birthday Party

little lamb themed dessert buffetLittle Lamb First Birthday Party Baby Shower

This soft and furry LITTLE LAMB First Birthday Party that Carrie of Half Baked created to celebrate her daughter’s first birthday has a wonderfully calm, tranquil vibe – and is filled with seriously incredible style and grace! The neutral color palette and fluffy textures that were used throughout the party are perfect choices for the “Little Lamb” party theme, which would also translate perfectly to a darling baby shower.

The custom lamb canvas by Diana of djDecor is the perfect backdrop for this lovely dessert table, and I’m especially smitten with all the different ways yarn was used to decorate including the yarn balls, mini yarn pop-pom balls, yarn wrapped letters spelling ‘Sadie’ (the birthday girl’s name, of course), and even the yarn on the cake! Speaking of cake, Carrie is an extremely talented cake designer. Sadie’s little cake smash cake is almost too cute to eat, and the large fondant lamb cake is simply spectacular. I’m loving the burlap accents used on the cake and on the custom bib by Bugaboo Bliss.

This party wouldn’t be complete without an array of soft and fluffy desserts – including custom puffy sheep sugar cookies, fluffy white cotton candy, cinnamon pinwheel cookies, white cheddar popcorn cones, caramel apple shooter and more. Vintage-Glam Winter Woodland Dinner Party

Note from Jenn:  I am so excited to share this ridiculously gorgeous holiday party from Jessica Wilcox and her close friends – twin sisters Laura & Lindsey – with you today! Jessica is one of our regular contributors, and sooo very, very talented… it’s pretty amazing what happens when this trio gets together! Get ready to explore a truly dreamy holiday party filled with sparkly, vintage-inspired eye candy. And now I’ll let Jessica take it away with all the festive details…

{by Jessica Wilcox}
This summer, I was asked to do a magazine shoot for the Party Dress Magazine. I eagerly agreed because I knew it was several months down the road and I would have plenty of time to prepare. Fast forward a few months, a few weddings, back to school festivities, and several parties later and we were one week before the magazine deadline. Ooops! Clearly time management is not one of my strong points…

Needless to say, I really wanted to submit something for the magazine, but couldn’t pull it all together by myself. I called my girlfriend Laura, whom you may remember from her Stunning Vintage-Modern Bridal Shower we threw this summer that was featured on HWTM. Her and her twin sister, Lindsey have been talking about starting a business for years. They have way to much creative talent not to share it with the world and get paid for their efforts. This magazine became a great motivation for them to get their website up and running. Thus, Double Take Event Styling was born.

They gave me a proposition I couldn’t refuse…plus, I didn’t really have a choice at this point *wink* I was in charge of all the party printables and graphic design work and they would style the shoot. I happily agreed, and we had about three days to get everything done. Nothing like pressure, right?

We selected a Vintage Winter Woodland theme because we didn’t want to do your traditional cookie-cutter Christmas dinner party. By using champagne, gold, and silver tones we were able to achieve a softer look, yet still very festive. The invitation set the tone for our party. Since our style is eclectic, we always try to incorporate vintage pieces throughout – many of which we have been collecting for years at local antique stores and are a part of our everyday home decor. I’m also loving the canister floral arrangement, wire laundry hamper filled with vintage quilts, vintage theater seating, and the gorgeous pink tufted couch surrounded by giant sparkly balloons! The ombre caramel apple bar full of tasty toppings was a wonderful addition, and even the s’mores ingredients were also beautifully displayed over pink tissue paper!

Soft & Sweet Silhouette Birthday Party

I’m giddy with excitement to tell you about this super sweet and absolutely AMAZING Girly Silhouette Birthday Party for Mia thrown by Paige, of Paiges of Style and Betsy of Betsy Blue Photography (Mia’s Mommy). Paige has become one of my dear friends, and we have HWTM to thank for “introducing us”! We first met when I was working on one of my very first posts for HWTM – which just so happened to be the  incredible Curious Charlie Monkey Party that she threw for her daughter Charlie.

As always, everything about this latest party from Paige is simply adorable, from the breathtaking layer cake and donut tower adorned with fabric flowers to the all-decked-out paper party hats. I’m in complete awe over the silhouette cake pops created by Kris kCreative Cake Pops too! Can you believe she was able to take Mia’s darling silhouette and turn it into an edible work of art? These have to be one of my all time favorite cake pops ever. I know who I will be calling for my next party. ;)

I’m also loving the large silhouette-themed fondant cake topper created by my other favorite sweets gal, Charynn of Two Sugar Babies.

Last but not least, a party wouldn’t be complete without custom coordinating party printables, and Paige designed several perfectly pastel silhouette party staples, including water bottle labels, cupcake wrappers, juice box wraps, party hats, and more (all of which are available for purchase from Paiges of Style).

Eerie & Elegant “Wicked Hallow’s Eve” Party

Adult Halloween Party

Abigail of Paper & Cake doesn’t think kids should be the only ones having fun on Halloween and we agree! She styled and designed a spooky, yet sophisticated adult dinner party starring her new Wicked Hallow’s Eve printable collection and went for a deadly color combination of black and white with splashes of purple throughout.

The creative use of everyday items such as wine glasses an apothecary jars is SPOOKTACULAR here! For example: turning wine glasses upside down makes the perfect cupcake pedestal. Who knew?! And mini “viles” of Absolute Vodka displayed in apothecary jars makes for both functional & decorative decor. The eerie off-kilter ghostly photos above the mantel take center stage at this party, while an alluring black candelabra serves as the perfect elegant table centerpiece. It’s also refreshing that she didn’t go overboard with the sweets, but snuck them in as decorative edible additions.
