UPDATE 8/4/15 – The contest portion of this post is now closed. Thank you so much to everyone that entered! I had to call in the troops to help make a final decision on the winner because there were some seriously awesome entries… it was definitely not easy! And the winner is…. Sherri Lee – for her gorgeous Tropical Paradise Party pinboard! Congrats, Sherri – hope you have a blast with your prize! :)
Hello, friends! I’m SO excited to share today’s post with you for a couple very specific reasons…
1. #ShareaCokeContest with a BIG prize
First of all, it comes with a fun contest and perhaps one of the greatest contest prizes ever… someone is going to WIN (2) United Airlines Tickets to visit friends & family (and #ShareaCoke with them in person!) + a $500 Visa Gift Card. The approximate retail value of this prize is $1700. See full details & contest rules at the bottom of this post.
2. SIPS AHOY
And secondly, it’s full of playful DIY ideas for a Nautical Bridal Shower Drink Station, complete with scoop-your-own Coke Floats and the new personalized Coke bottles, which you can now order online. These custom bottles are such a fun way to make someone feel extra special! Case in point: even though this is a styled inspirational shoot, I used the name of my close friend that’s actually getting married this year, and she teared up when she saw the bottles, which were customized with her name and “The Bride”. ;)
P.S. You can also download all the printables that I designed for this drink station for free! The download links are directly below the last image. Here we go…
I wanted this drink station to feel equal parts playful and glam. Gold sequins and metallic accents added the perfect touch of glam, while fun elements like nautical rope, oversize plastic rings, and casual script fonts kept things light and fun.
The personalized Coke bottles were front-and-center on the table, and were further customized for the theme with little “sailor knots” tied around the neck of each bottle to symbolize “tying the knot”. The ribbon used for the knots was gold and white, so there’s a hint of glam in them as well. ;)
I displayed the bottles in a vintage wood basket decked out with nautical rope, check fabric, and DIY flowers, which I made by pulling individual petals off faux hydrangeas & hot gluing rhinestones and beads in the center. (You can make TONS of smaller flowers out of one faux hydrangea stem this way!)
To add symmetry to the table and include a variety of drinks to sip on, I placed beverage dispensers on both sides. Each dispenser was decked out with various trims, an oversize faux flower, and a script paper word. The paper words came in black, so I spray painted them red and blue to match the table.
I always love giving regular drinks fun names to match a theme, so this strawberry lemon water became “Fruit Infused Sea Water“, and the blueberry infused lemonade became “Buoy Blueberry Lemonade“. Labels for both of these, as well as blank labels, are included in the free printables below.
The wood letters in the backdrop (which were purchased at JoAnn) were given a colored trim – using acrylic craft paint – to better tie them into the theme. I felt like I hit the jackpot when I found this marquee anchor at Michaels for 40% off! It was kind of a bright blue that didn’t really match, but a quick coat of gold spray paint fixed that.
In addition to the DIY flowers mentioned above, I used oversize plastic rings to add detail to the table and play up the bridal shower side of the theme. These started out clear and black, so they were spray painted red and gold, then strung on some nautical rope. I love how they turned out! :)
You can download this “SIPS ahoy!” sign below, as well as the nautical party flags used on the drink straws. Instead of wrapping the party flags around the straws, I folded them in half and glued the 2 sides together to make them “double sided”, then hot glued them to the straws.
Who doesn’t love a good mason jar, right?! These were dressed up with ribbon trims + heart stickers that were spray painted gold. (You can probably find gold heart stickers pretty easily too, but I had white ones on hand and wanted to use what I already had.)
As much as I love how the mason jars turned out, the other drinkware made me EXTRA happy! I think it’s because I just love fonts and text so much. Anyways, these are simple plastic red cups from Party City + epoxy stickers by Heidi Swapp. The stickers come in various colors, so again, they were spray painted gold to match.
(Tip: If you paint these at home, remove the stickers from their plastic backing before painting them, and place them directly on the card stock insert/backing instead. The paint doesn’t dry well on the plastic backing, so you won’t get a nice clean edge on the stickers when you paint them that way.)
The (free printable) sign read “You Float My Boat”. I thought that was a fitting tie-in to both the Nautical Bridal Shower theme AND the Coke Floats! Speaking of which…
One of the best things about Coke Floats is how simple they are… just set out a big tub of ice cream, the personalized Coke bottles, cherries, and whipped cream. I placed my ice cream tub inside a retro Coke Beverage Bucket and customized the whipped cream bottle with patterned paper and a label (also included below). ENJOY!
