This is my very favorite kind of DIY project – SO easy and SO effective! I used it to theme up lots of decor elements for my recent Derby Style Inspired Party, created in celebration of the new Kentucky Derby® Red Blend by 14 Hands Wine.
HOW TO MAKE THEM:
All you need for this project is gold spray paint and a sheet of horse themed stickers. Just make sure that the stickers have a nice die-cut silhouette shape to them – like the set shown here, which I found in the scrapbook aisle at Michaels.
Once you’ve got your materials, prep a spray painting surface outside. Since sticker sheets are small, you can just use a large piece of scrap cardboard like I did here, or lay down a small tarp or large plastic trash bag. Spray one light coat of gold paint first and let it dry for a few minutes. This coat kind of acts like a “primer” and doesn’t need to be pretty. Then, spray a 2nd coat so that you end up with a nice, even coverage. Done!
Let the stickers dry for a few minutes, and you’re ready to use them! Easy, right? I stuck them on wood crates to make themed stands and risers for the party…
….and onto these DIY ties to make a Derby style inspired party garland! (Tutorial coming next week.)
The decals also looked great on painted mason jars:
Hope you have some fun with these! The other great thing is that this project is super versatile, so you can use the same concept to make golden silhouette decals for other themes too.
