Radiant Plum & Green Storybook Wedding

You start to feel a part of their special day, like you somehow know them really well! Is that weird? ;) Allison Mackey of Allison Noelle Events & Isari Flower Studio + Event Design did an amazing job putting together this Radiant Plum & Green Storybook Wedding for a lovely (& very fashionable) couple with bright purple blooms, rustic wooden accents and an absolutely breathtaking ceremony venue!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Bride & bridesmaids’ champagne toast with purple paper straws, mini veils & an ‘almost Mrs.’ flag
– Eucalyptus table runners & wooden lantern centerpieces + scalloped purple place cards

Plus, any night of the year is a great night for all this gorgeous looking food, right? If you’re hungry while reading this, be prepared, because there are some seriously tasty looking dishes and pin-worthy food presentation ideas coming your way (colorful Roasted Beets and Lemon Cranberry Butter, I’m looking at you!).

– Smooth stone place cards with each guest’s name scripted in metallic gold
– Beautiful holiday spread starring Sage Peppered Roasted Turkey + Sausage & Apple Cornbread Stuffing

Andy Warhol Pop Art First Birthday Party

andy warhol inspired birthday party dessert table This Andy Warhol Pop Art First Birthday Party is proof that sophisticated themes can work amazingly well for kids’ parties too! Nick Gentile Events styled this party with some help from Rachelle Guerin, who came up with the pop art theme for her daughter, who’s favorite book is Andy Warhol’s Colors. I love how unique this theme is, especially since the bright colors, funky decor & animal sweets totally make sense for a one year old! It’s the perfect example of a party that kids & adults can both enjoy! Make sure to check out the video at the end to see the whole setup.

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

DIY Tutorial: Color-Blocked Drawstring Favor Bags

color blocked muslin favor bags

I’ve always been a fan of the color-blocked and paint dipped looks, but even more so when they’re EASY to create! These color-blocked favor bags are exactly that… all you need are a few basic craft materials + plain drawstring muslin bags (which I bought here).

This look is versatile enough to work with almost any party theme, but we added the party circles and square favor tags from our Swim Party Collection to customize them for a recent poolside blogger event and a backyard swim party. And for the inside of the bags? Swedish Fish, of course! ;)

Taking Better Party Photos {+ Point and Shoot vs. Pro Camera Comparison}

Party Photography Tips

When it comes to featured party submissions, one of the biggest issues we see time and time again is poor photo quality. This can be heart-breaking because we know how much time & energy goes into making these parties so beautiful (trust me, we know!), but it’s hard to properly see all that creativity through harsh lighting and blurry images. We also understand how difficult it can be to translate a party from real life to the camera screen though, and there’s just no getting around the fact that lighting and equipment play such a big role in making that happen.

So, I was very happy when Maria Healey, an incredibly talented professional photographer from my own neck of the woods, approached us about sharing some party photography tips with our readers. She touches on 2 key things here: 1) making the most with the equipment you’ve got (even if it’s an iPhone camera!) and 2) illustrating the differences between standard Point and Shoot Camera results and and Pro Level Camera results (a Canon 5D Mark II to be specific!).

Read on for her tried-and-true tips and insight…

DIY Tutorial: Quick & Easy Glittered Utensils

DIY Tutorial: Glittered Forks - Materials

Guess what… a party craft doesn’t have to be complicated to be great! These Glittered Wooden Utensils are super simple and one of my favorite quick & easy ways to add sparkle to any table – from kids table place settings to grown up appetizer and dessert buffets. And while we all know that glitter has a tendency to kind of get on everything, this particular little project is much less messier than you might expect – with a little help from a handy thing called glitter tape! (P.S. Glitter tape comes in all sorts of colors too!)

This is a very straightforward project, but I know that sometimes a quick glance at a visual graphic of the steps can still be helpful, so here ya go:

Printable Flamingo Party Silhouettes {+ Summer Blog Hop}

printable flamingo party silhouettes

I’m a fan of flamingos all year round, but there’s no denying that they fit in especially well during the warm summer months… which is probably one of the reasons I’ve seen flamingo parties (and flamingo everything else!) popping up so much lately.

So for this month’s (Summer Themed) Free Printable Blog Hop, I decided to offer up these cute & girlie Flamingo Party Silhouettes, as seen on the charger plates in our recent Flamingo Fiesta Party theme. I’m thinking they would also be really cute strung into a banner, used on chair backs, or attached to gift bags. You can now download these silhouettes over on the flamingo party recap post, along with the 8×10 Drink Sign and Blank Tent Cards. (You’ll find download links for all 3 items at the bottom of the post.)

Toy-Inspired Royal First Birthday Bash for Fisher-Price

Toy Inspired Royal First Birthday Party

ROYAL MEETS TOY {The Challenge}

When it comes to “Royal” party themes, visions of glitzy details and fancy-schmancy-in-general decorations are usually what first come to mind (as evidenced in my friend’s royal baby shower, during which I had to restrain myself from glittering everything in sight!).

So, when Fisher-Price® recently asked me to come up with a Royal First Birthday Bash theme that aligned with their {very clean, very modern-looking} brand and classic toys, figuring out the right way to merge these 2 looks was definitely a bit of a design challenge at first!

I was excited to see if I could figure it out though, because “Royal” and Prince/Princess themes are very popular for first birthday parties right now, so a very childlike, toy-inspired twist on this theme sounded especially fitting! Plus, Charm City Cakes bakery was already doing the cake, and I’ll jump at the chance to rub elbows pixels with Ace of Cakes any day. ;)

Royal First Birthday Cake by Charm City Cakes

The Starting Point

Whenever I’m working on a new theme, I try to come up with 1 or 2 ideas that really make sense for the project, then use those as the foundation for the theme. For this project, it was the Rock-a-Stack® castle (as seen on the far right of the top image here) and the Corn Popper Inspired Cake Popper (more on that later).

For the first idea, a spray painted sugar cone + felt flag quickly transformed this classic baby toy into a “castle turret” – which then led to a full DIY Birthday Castle Centerpiece idea and also gave me the starting point for the paper details/printables, which you can download for free right here! I also used the “turrets” on their own as accent decor:

Royal First Birthday Party Activities and Sign

The “party guests” were friends and friends-of-friends. The littlest ones were quite enthralled with the ball garlands in particular (see the DIY tutorial here). My own daughters jumped in on the action too, and Sonny caught what is easily one of my favorite pictures of our youngest daughter (Rylie) ever. ;)

DIY Royal Birthday Party Crowns

Of course I couldn’t resist getting just a tiny bit of sparkle into this royal theme… glittered washi tape on the bamboo forks did the trick! The party straws also had metallic gold stars: (more…)

Flamingo Fiesta Girls Night In {Part 2: Crafting & Desserts}

Flamingo Party Dessert Table - Pink and Gold

In continuation of today’s Flamingo Fiesta Part 1 post, here we go with Part 2: Crafting and Desserts!

Just like the Sauza® Sparkling Margarita bar and dinner table from Part 1, the dessert station features playful flamingo-inspired colors and elements + an ample dose of sparkle. The treats were simple and easy: homemade watermelon cupcakes + grocery store goodies that were given a little creative presentation. (For example: a freezer-section key lime pie was cut into mini squares for a modern “small bites” look, then garnished with quarters of lime!)

I also set up a craft table with “ingredients” for guests to make their own set of ceramic tile drink coasters, which tie in well to the cocktail theme of the night. Added bonus: the plain white tiles used for the coasters were only .13 each! The original plan was to focus on decoupaging them with patterned paper, but I got sidetracked by my washi tape bin and ended up loving that idea even more! {Added bonus – it’s SUPER easy. More on the craft project below.}

P.S. If you’re looking for additional crafting ideas, check out Sauza’s cheeky “Make Anything with a Cowboy” craft video series featuring fun projects like Sparkly Acorns, Margarita Charms, and even Jorts. Who knew cowboys were so crafty?! ;)

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Red velvet & marbled cake shooters served in disposable “cheers” themed shot glasses
– Bright pink, accessorized flamingo + simple feather garland & pink honeycomb wall backdrop
– Cupcake toppers made from flamingo themed stir sticks + paper party circles
– Pink toothbrush-holders-turned-craft-supply-holders, embellished with a metallic gold Y-A-Y!
– Mini notebook party favors (only $1 for 3!) dressed up with favor tags & baker’s twine

Flamingo Fiesta Girls Night In {Part 1: Dinner & Drinks}

pink, gold and black flamingo themed cocktail party

You can never go wrong with crafting, cocktails, and a little sparkle …at least in my book! So when I was recently asked to dream up some creative inspiration for a fun Girls Night In featuring Sauza® Sparkling, last month, this tried-and-true combo is exactly where I started. ;)

The weather is warm and summer fun is in the air right now, so I decided to focus on a Flamingo Party theme that’s playful, girlie, and a little bit cheeky! Retro lawn flamingos were given glam makeovers, flamingo-stemmed cups were brushed with glitter, and pale pink feathers were accented with gold and strewn into garlands. I added some bold black & white stripes for contrast, plus some simple white string lights for added twinkle behind the bar. YAY! This theme would translate REALLY WELL to a milestone birthday, flirty bridal shower, or bachelorette party too. Lawn flamingo with a veil, anyone? ;)

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Painted feather-and-glitter-tape garland + YAY letters dressed up with patterned paper & glitter
– Flamingo party glasses with gold glitter bases & monogram sticker “drink markers”
– Chilled Wild Berry & Original Lime Sparkling Margaritas + colorful Strawberry Cucumber Mint Water
– Painted plastic lawn flamingos decked out with necklaces, flower “barettes”, boas, and tutus
– Playful flamingo themed paper details, {including a free printable 8×10 drink sign & tent cards!}
