Trend Alert: Graphic Vinyl Backdrops

Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with the “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about GRAPHIC VINYL BACKDROPS! Vinyl backdrops are showing up everywhere in parties recently.  They have long been used on the red carpet and at corporate events but are now making their way into smaller, more intimate parties and creating huge wow factor moments!

Bubblegum Backdrops is a vinyl backdrop shop that has hundreds of affordable pre-printed vinyl backdrops to choose from or they can custom create one just for your event.  The come in many sizes, set up in minutes and can be finished with rod pockets for easy hanging on backdrop stands that you can purchase from them as well.  They can also do custom backdrops complete with a huge graphic of your child’s name or event logo.  Just send them the artwork and they do the rest.  Here I will show you 3 ways to use graphic vinyl backdrops at your next event using my signature “POP-arazzi” pop star party.

Custom Step & Repeat Photo Backdrop!

Who doesn’t want to show up at their next party with a red carpet entrance fit for a celebrity! This vinyl backdrop was custom designed with our “POP-arazzi” logo to create the same step & repeat banner seen on red carpets and at VIP celebrity events.  Guests arrive and get the paparazzi treatment as they arrive, receive their All Access VIP passes and take lots of photos celebrity style! Place a few photo props nearby and watch your guests have a blast!

Themed Backdrop for your Sweets Table!

“POP-arazzi” pop star parties are all about the bling and sparkle!  This Purple Bokeh 8’x8′ (96″x96″) vinyl backdrop fits perfectly behind a 6′ table and is the perfect design compliment to this “POP-arazzi” styled sweets table.  The backdrop adds a wow factor and matches the printables colors and theme perfectly with it’s sparkly bursts of light!

DESIGN TIP: When using a patterned backdrop such as this, it is great to use a large focal point in the middle of the table to stand out against the background.

For this, I enlisted the help of Ten23 Designs who custom created this laser wood cutout of my “POP-arazzi” logo. To make it stand out against the background I spray painted it silver and added rhinestones, for a touch of sparkle of course!  The sparkle continues even into the desserts!  Check out these glittered apples and cake pops from Autumn Lynn’s Chocolate Sins…how fabulous are these and look gorgeous against the backdrop.  Dress up store bought cupcakes with sparkle sticks, printables and these glitter cupcake wraps….FABULOUS!

TIP:  As an extra detail, offer color coordinated candy that compliments your printables and pop star theme like rock candy sticks, rock candy strings, POP rocks and custom microphone iced cookies from Sweet C’s Bake Shop!

Use a Backdrop to Set a Scene!

An easy way to make a visual impact in your party space is to use backdrops to set a scene.  Here I used the Purple Bokeh backdrop to set the scene of a pop star’s dressing room.  This area is perfect for your guests to dress up in pop star gear like hats, headset microphones and tutus.  The perfect spot for more photo ops too!

Now you can get on this hot new trend FOR LESS!  Exclusive for HWTM readers, Bubblegum Backdrops is extending 20% off all backdrops with coupon code: BBTRENDALERT for one month from the date of this post!

Looks awesome. I want a bite of one of those candy apples. Glitter delights. Those cookies look to perfect to eat. Maybe I'll just sing into them.

Can you please explain what happens on the edges of the vinyl backdrop on the stand. I’m trying to imagine how I can make it look professional and finished.

I love your parties but I'm curious what happens on the edges of the backdrop. I'm trying to image how to give it a professional, finished look.

Ive seen edible glitter but does anyone have the recipe or know where to find the ones that sparkle THAT much??

The glitter on those apples and cake pops certainly looks like disco dust–INEDIBLE PLASTIC GLITTER. Definitely not for use on something that will be eaten. Edible glitter will not look the same, but it’s not PLASTIC. It’s gum arabic, sanding sugar, or gelatin.
