PARTY DETAILS, as told by Shalyce

My son, Cameron, and his friends had a chugga chugga, choo choo good time at his 2nd birthday party. One of Cameron’s favorite TV shows is Thomas & Friends, so it was a no-brainer to go with that theme for his party.  With the theme picked, I then got started with creating his invitation, which I jazzed up with train images from My Grafico and a home photo I took of the birthday boy in his train gear.

To stay in line with the kid-friendly vibe of Thomas, we chose to have the party at the Wheaton Regional Park in Wheaton, MD, which features a miniature train, carousel, playgrounds and a train station party room. With the many amenities the park provided, this served as the perfect venue, especially since it rained prior to the start of party (so happy we had the indoor room). The birthday boy and his friends had such a wonderful time, and no rain could rain on our parade! The kids enjoyed the activity stations to include face painting and balloon twisting (by Signs, Wonders and Gifts Artistry), train play, train tunnel, coloring and more.

For décor, I chose to stick with the red and turquoise colors of Thomas the Train. Lots of crafting and design went into the overall fun flair I was going for, but it was all worth it for my little man and actually tons of fun.  One special touch that both the kids and their parents enjoyed was the dining cart I designed that featured a custom train cake stand, train cart snack trays, kid friendly snacks and more. We also had some yummy sweets to include: Cameron’s Thomas the Train birthday cake (Kake Korner in Laurel, MD), customized cake pops (Kedawalk Cupcakes of DC) and cupcakes made by me. The guest tables were decorated with everything Thomas the Train…from Thomas embellished spinwheel centerpieces, to balloons, to lunch boxes and confetti. First class seating signs and Cameron’s birthday shoot portraits were added to include personal touches.

We wanted the kids to feel like a train conductor, so each child received their own conductor hat, bandana and train whistle.  At the end of the afternoon, everyone departed with a goodie bag, picked up at “baggage claim.” The smile on Cameron’s face when he walked in the party room and throughout the party was priceless! Photos from the party were captured by Paparazzi Pictures.

You can see part 1 of the full recap here and part 2 here. We were so thrilled and honored to have Cameron’s party featured on the popular party website Hostess With The Mostess. […]

Mom and Dad, it looks like the party was loads of fun. I am trying to also do a Thomas themed party for my son but it won’t be until December. I love the idea of having the table signs and the snack boxes. How did you do that? Were you able to do the signs yourself or did you go and get them from a store? I would love yo know. Looking forward to your comment.
