PARTY DETAILS, as told by Deanna…
My son, Sam, is obsessed with baseball. So, when it was time to plan his 7th birthday, the theme was a no-brainer! Even though we live in Kentucky, his favorite MLB team is the Los Angeles Angels. One of the Angels’ pitchers just happened to play college ball for the University of Kentucky, where my husband also played baseball.
The party started with the red, navy, and white party printables I designed. The printables design includes stripes and a modern clover pattern. The color palette and patterns were repeated throughout the party. I am adding the printable to my Esty Shop, with the option to customize them to any team colors. There were three tables set up for the party: the food table, the dessert table, and the eating table.
For the food table or Concessions Table, I painted a backdrop to look like baseball seams. It was an easy DIY project that was made by simply painting the back side of a sheet of bead board. A “concessions” banner also hung on the front of the table. A vintage Coca-Cola crate, wood crate, and hot dogs sign also decorated the table.
For the dessert table, I made a clean white Home Plate Backdrop. To make the backdrop, I cut napkins in the shape of a home plate. They were then stapled to the backdrop. The table was also topped with a white tablecloth. White dishes were used throughout the table. I also made a sign for the table that reads, “Never let the fear of striking out keep you from playing the game”.
For the eating table, I first covered the middle of the table with a red flannel table topper. Each place setting included a handmade ceramic baseball plate. I made the plate to look like baseball seams to match the Concessions Table backdrop. The plates were made by using a permanent marker and baking them to set the marker. Napkins were folded to look like little bow ties. For the centerpiece, I simply filled a vase with baseballs.
We served the kids typical baseball food: hot dogs, ballpark pretzels, popcorn, and peanuts. We also served fruit kabobs topped with baseball and bat picks. For dessert, the kids chose from Oreo Truffle Pops, Angels themed Sugar Cookies, Birthday Cake, Red Velvet & Vanilla Cupcakes, Chocolate Covered Oreos, and Baseball Lollipops. I made a mini cake just for Sam. It was topped with a handmade Angels Pitcher Scott Downs Peg Doll cake topper, made by my husband.
We had a beautiful March day for the party, so the kids were able to enjoy playing wiffle ball in the backyard and the jumping on the bouncy house slide. Sam’s favorite part of the party was opening his favorite gift from our sweet friends – a signed ball and t-shirt from Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout.
