PARTY DETAILS, as told by Darci…

THEME
We threw a vintage fiesta themed 1st birthday for our son, Jackson, last June.  At first it seemed rather challenging to pull together a vintage, classy, first birthday / age appropriate FIESTA themed party, but  I absolutely love how it turned out!

DECORATIONS
Oh gosh, so many!  We handmade an UNO piñata (quite the fete – this was lots of work)  that was the hit of the party along with a month by month banner with the months in Spanish (uno, dos, tres…), I found vintage, authentic adult and children sombreros on Etsy & Ebay along with mini, wooden vintage donkey figurines that were placed throughout the house to accessorize.  I filled El Pato cans with succulents, cactus and fresh flowers.  I used larger El Pato cans to hold the silverware.  I added color-coordinating pom poms around round place mats to use as centerpieces for the tables.  We wrote “Jackson’s First Fiesta” on a huge framed chalkboard we already had and that was the backdrop for the dessert table!  We also  had a chalkboard easel at the front door with “Let’s Fiesta” written on it to greet guests as they walked in….. the tray of the chalkboard easel was lined with El Pato cans filled with succulents and cacti, which we handed out as party favors as we told each guest goodbye and walked them out.

FOOD & DRINKS
Lunch: We had a gourmet taco truck serve fajitas and enchiladas to all of our guests!  It was fun surprise that no one expected!

Drinks: Water with custom bottle wrappers, lemonade, Jarritos (a Mexican cola in a tall glass bottle), Coronitas with custom bottle wrappers and pineapple/orange sangria served in painted mason jars w/ fun straws!

Desserts: Custom cookies to match the party theme, key lime pie & chocolate cupcakes, animal crackers, mini churros, key lime pie in mason jars and gumballs.  *Note:  all had dessert labels with the names in Spanish…. “pastels de lima” (key lime pie),”galletas de azucar” (sugar cookies”, “churritos” (mini churros), “chicle” (gum), etc. etc.

PARTY FAVORS
In addition to the small El Pato cans filled with succulents and cacti (mentioned above), guests also left with a custom-made “Jackson’s First Fiesta” coloring book that was filled with pages of cartoon donkeys, sombreros, a cactus, etc.  We had custom crayons (donkey, sombrero, cactus) in treat bags with coordinating toppers as well…. it was precious!

DIY PROJECTS
We handmade the UNO pull-string pinata (wanted it to be pull-string so all of the little ones could actually get candy out of it!).  We also made the monthly photo banner with the months in Spanish.  I painted the cake pedestals to coordinate with the party colors and glued the plates on as well.  I found a lot of vintage metal bundt pans and plates at an antique store and used parts of them for the dessert table….it really helped add a vintage feel.  We also made the framed chalkboard above the dessert table and did the chalk art for both that chalkboard and the easel chalkboard out front, that greeted the guests as they walked in.
