PARTY DETAILS, as told by Elisa

I decided I hadn’t had a proper party since I was a teenager and it might be the last birthday I’d have without a baby in tow (I found out the following weekend that I was, in fact, pregnant!).  I’d created an inspiration board early in 2011 with a Rainbow and Unicorn theme that was the number one reason people were finding my blog (funny, since I primarily plan weddings!), and had said that it was the ideal party for my 8-year-old self.  Well, I realized it was the ideal party for my 30-something-year-old self too, so I decided to have fun with it!! :-)

I wanted to carry the rainbow theme throughout, so I had a baker friend make rainbow macarons and sugar cookies, another make rainbow cake pops, and a third, a rainbow cake!  I also made rice krispies treats with fruity pebbles and had fun picking out a rainbow of candies.  On the not-so-sweet side, I had a fruit rainbow, a roasted veggie salad “rainbow,” pasta salad, cold chicken, and rolls, all made from scratch.  My friend Desiree, an extremely talented florist, is also an extremely talented artist; she painted the “Pin the Tail on the Unicorn” game and created the giant rainbow flowers for each table, along with arranging the rainbow-colored blooms.  I spray painted plastic unicorns silver to go with the “Imagine” and “Dream” bookends and the silver vases we’d gotten.  And of course I had such fun designing the stationery for the party, complete with a chevron rainbow!

I love the idea! Why should an over-abundance of colour and fantasy only be for kid’s parties?

So many great ideas here! And soo pretty! Can you tell me where the unicorn on the cake is from? I’m planning a unicorn rainbow party and would love to use the same one as my cake topper. Thanks!!
