Creative & Unique “Easter Bunny Pirate Party”

pirate bunny easter party telescopes and drinks

New twists on traditional holidays are always fun, and this Easter Bunny PIRATE Party from Cio Prints is definitely a new combination – at least in my book! The “pirate” angle was inspired by the popular “hunting for treasure-filled eggs” Easter activity – which is exactly what pirates do… well, the hunting for treasure part at least. ;) There are so many creative ideas in here for regular pirate parties too – from the super cool DIY ship sail backdrop to the sword “banner” and more!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Clever treats like popcorn “barnacles”, & “scurvy prevention” orange candy slices
– Cool striped spy glass telescopes
– Treasure maps with “The Infernos of Fire” & “The Land of Bath”
– Fun outdoor activities like a cannon ball (water balloon) toss!

Fruity & Refreshing POPSICLE Cocktails {Cheers!}

popsicle cocktails - strawberry and tangerine

These refreshing, perfect-for-summer “Popsicle Cocktails” are SO easy and totally delicious! You can make them with any flavor you like – we used strawberry and tangerine fruit bars here. Make sure to use popsicles made with real fruit for the freshest taste.

– To create a light spritzer, combine equal parts champagne & ginger ale.
– For a fruity cocktail, go with 3 parts ginger ale to 1 part white rum or vodka.

Add the popsicles to either version right before serving. They’ll dissolve into the drinks as guests enjoy them. Think of them kind of like a REALLY BIG garnish. ;)

Patriotic Star Spangled S’mores Bars {Recipe}

diy tutorial for patriotic s'mores bars

MEMORIAL DAY is almost upon us, and you know what that means! It’s time for some grillin’, chillin’ and fun in the sun! Hi, it’s Carrie Sellman from Half Baked, the cake blog for sweet inspiration. I’m thrilled to be back today, sharing a fun update on a classic all-American treat… s’mores!

Baked as a bar cookie, these oven s’mores meet my two basic party-food requirements. They can be made in advance (check) and will easily serve a crowd (check, check). A traditional graham cracker crust is baked until golden and topped with a silky smooth chocolate cream. And what’s a Memorial Day treat without some patriotic pride? Star shaped marshmallows in red, white and blue give these s’more a festive flair. Liven up your backyard BBQ with these patriotic Star Spangled S’mores Bars.

DIY Tutorial: “Mini Charcoal Grill Trio” Centerpiece

mini bbq centerpiece for a summer grilling party - diy tutorial

I really wanted to feature something creative & unique as the table centerpiece for our brand new Summer Grilling Party theme (posting later today!!), so my first thought was to go REALLY literal and create some miniature charcoal grills. Luckily, the shape of charcoal grills makes them very easy to emulate using inexpensive & easily accessible materials – hooray!

First, I found 3 melamine bowls at Target that matched our party color palette perfectly, then filled them with charcoal and topped them with painted bamboo skewers for the “grill” tops. Oh ya… can’t forget orange sprinkles for the “embers”! ;)

diy tutorial for a mini charcoal grill table centerpiece

Old shot glasses from our cabinet were flipped upside down and coated in shiny silver spray paint to create the bases for the grills. (The tallest shot glass was a joke gift that my husband had received a while back with a rival football team’s logo on it, so he was pretty happy to see that one “go”!) Finally, little hot glue to attach the stands to the grills and – voila! The modern Mini Charcoal Grill Trio was complete.

I’m pretty happy with how these little guys turned out… wouldn’t they be cute for a camping party theme or Tailgate too?! Read on for the step-by-step instructions… (more…)

“In Full Bloom” – A French Bistro Inspired Baby Shower

french garden baby shower "in full bloom" theme
Jessica Wilcox of Modern Moments Designs here, and I’m beyond excited to share something extra special with you today… my very own “In Full Bloom” French Baby Shower! As you may or may not know, my husband and I have three little boys and finally, we’ve been blessed with a little girl who will be arriving in July!

I was so excited when my friends Laura and Lindsey of Double Take Event Styling offered to throw me a baby shower. You may remember Laura’s Chevron Stripe Bridal Shower that I helped style last summer. I knew anything they created would be nothing less than fabulous…

french garden baby shower decorations and potted plant merci favors

baby shower invitation

I came up with the theme “In Full Bloom” because I feel like I am definitely in bloom! I designed the shower invitations myself and knew I didn’t want them to be baby-ish, but instead something that could work for many occasions, from baby showers to bridal showers or weddings.

The girls of Double Take Event Styling were inspired by an outdoor French bistro and wanted the feeling of the party to be soft and feminine. We combined our two ideas and came up with the most beautiful baby shower ever… not that I’m biased or anything! wink ;)

{Fresh Sea Breeze} Gender Neutral Baby Shower

gender neutral baby shower cake

HWTM Contributor Maureen Anders of Anders Ruff, here – excited to share our new baby shower theme! Ready for a totally do-able and fresh gender neutral baby shower?  Sea breeze inspired hues of mint, aqua, lime, and yellow set the stage for some yummy desserts and soft, yet striking decor!

THEME HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Homemade “Baby Pickles” favors in upcycled glass baby food jars.
  • Decorative monogram “B” silhouette trimmed in yarn!
  • Yarn Pom and Marshmallow Pop bouquets
  • Yarn Cupcake Topper “Rattles”

gender neutral baby shower sweets table

We {Anders Ruff} love to go overboard incorporating fabulous professional dessert artists, party decor companies and seamstresses.  There is so much talent out there, but there is also the reality of a budget.  This time we Anders Ruff girls did it all on our own {with exception of our sidekick photographer, Becca Bond Photography}.  It was fun to create a realistic menu including easy and beautiful desserts and finger foods that we made ourselves.

Jenn has always been an inspiration and we have always admired her creative use of yarn.  Yarn is such an economical embellishment and while we were trying to show a “down to earth” baby shower, it seemed like it would set the tone perfectly.

“Simply White” Wedding {Elegance + Natural Elements}

elegant white wedding placecard

This “Simply Elegant” White Wedding – designed by YourBASH! and held in the famous Crown Room at Hotel del Coronado – is sure to make any traditional bride swoon!

Sometimes limiting the color palette can inspire and highlight wonderfully creative ideas that may otherwise get overlooked. For example, the gorgeous tables in this wedding reception alternated between beautiful (and very masculine) dark wooden rectangles and standard 72″ rounds covered in a crisp white pleated linens. Such a great contrast dreamed up by Brian Worley! How many weddings have you attended where only half the tables are covered with linens? If you’re like me, then none… but it totally works AND gives you the flexibility to a whole new layer of design to the room!

WEDDING HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Lots of wood & natural textures used throughout
  • Lush white florals & soft candlelight for a romantic vibe
  • Mod minimalist menus & place cards embellished with pearls for a touch of shimmer
  • All-white tier cake adorned in white butterfly silhouettes
