I’ve found a winner! This Carnival Ticket Cake Bunting by Kendra of My Insanity is SO creative! Using simple striped straws, baker’s twine, scrapbook sticker letters & of course carnival tickets (Paired with an adorable award winning ribbon crafted from a coffee filter, ruffled ribbon and cupcake liners!) made for a clever cake topper that would be adorable for any carnival or circus themed celebration!

(This is an overview. I left more detailed comments on each photo in the gallery. Let me know if you would like me to compile those here)

My daughter has a love for pigs so was super-excited when I suggested the County Fair theme for her 5th party. Despite my plans, we didn’t end up with a real pig at the party, but we did end up with a lot of old-fashioned fun for the birthday girl and all of her guest!

I wanted the guests to feel like they were actually going to a county fair in a rural county and many years back. I was really fortunate to be able to call on the resources of many friends to be able to pull off this larger scale party on the cheap.

Our friends’ backyard in a rural part of town provided the perfect venue. They have lots of open space to play and a large tent and some pop-up tents we were able to use to create the fair atmosphere. Not to mention a train made of water barrels that the kids can ride on. I designed signs to display throughout the party to give it an authentic/vintage feel. Another good friend and retired printing teacher printed them all for me!

The food was set up in two areas, The Concession Stand, for the typical fair foods like popcorn and cotton candy, and the Prize-winners table for the old-fashioned baked goods, which doubled as the birthday cake and snack-sized pies.

The fair games were very home-spun. We made everything at home using old cans and bottles. We had a ring toss, dart game, ball toss, ladder throw, and anything else my 11-year-old came up with as I designated her as the head of the game portion of the party. The kids could also get their face-painted, get to know a couple of real-live goats, and ride on the water barrel train.

Other activities included a pinata, painting canvases for the art exhibit, and a little bit of square dancing. It was a fun party for all!
