Vintage Inspired Backyard Camping Party

Vintage Inspired Backyard Camping Party

Ready for S’MORE fun? Let’s hike on over to Camp Diesel for a Vintage Inspired Backyard Camping Party! Jami of Jami’s On Sweet Street collected antique camping items, set up fabric framed tents & tracked down a tent piñata to complete her vision of an old-school campsite for her son’s 3rd birthday. And, Jami herself made the inspired desserts, the most amazing being the JUMBO S’mores Cake!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Trail Mix Bar & “S’more Fun” Table
– Wood painted signs and DIY fabric tents
– “Bear Poop” (chocolate no-bakes) & s’more cake pops in a bed of marshmallows
– Canteens, containers, lanterns & more vintage style
– Compass, flashlights and pop rock favors (+ fun adult favors: cans of OFF! and firestarters!)

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Jami

Every summer my parents go camping so the past few years we have been taking Diesel and meeting up with my parents to do a little “camping” ourselves. I do have to admit that Diesel is not fully aware of what REAL camping entails. He is used to having his own bed in his own bedroom with his own flat screen tv to watch. While that may not be camping to some, it is all he knows and boy, does he LOVE it!!! He loves it so much that I thought it would be the perfect theme for his 3rd birthday party this year.

I wanted to keep the party very simple and small this year but once I started seeing all of this amazing “antique” camping gear everywhere I couldn’t resist. I love the look of old-time, vintage camping. The images of 6 kids and 2 happy parents singing road-trip songs in their boat-of-a-Station Wagon pulling a tiny little tear-drop trailer seems like the ideal reality of camping so I wanted to portray that while keeping it still very boy-ish.

My wonderful neighbor, Jim, built the tent frames for me. I painted the various wooden signs that we posted all over the yard, front and back to warn the guests of the scary bears they may encounter within the Marysville city limits. The kids played the good ol’ games of tug-o-war, 3 legged race, sack races, and I even found a tent pinata at an online party store.

The goody bags included camping related items such as a compass, lantern, mosquito repellent bracelets, camping temporary tats, flashlights, pop rocks, etc, etc. The adults got cans of OFF! and really cool firestarters that I found on Etsy. Everyone enjoyed making their own trail mix to take home at the Trail Mix Bar.

Next to our real bonfire, a S’more Fun S’more Table was setup. Yummy!! My favorite part.

The dessert table included camping themed cookies, bear poop (chocolate no-bakes), cake pops, a smore cake, and a camping cake.  The adorable little camping props that I used as the cake topper came straight from the camping mecca of the world, Cabelas!
