It’s winter in Australia right now, so Daisy of Leo & Bella created this SUPER CUTE Winter Camping Party for her son Leonardo’s 3rd birthday! And even though the weather’s been nearing triple digits in my neck of the woods lately, the adorable details from this party – including wintry accents like flannel, pinecones, wood textures & the birthday boy’s beanie! – are getting me really excited for the upcoming fall and winter seasons… and for more rustic & nature inspired parties to come!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
– Woodgrain textured cake + woodgrain washi tape drink wrappers
– Incredible camping inspired sugar cookies in the shape of s’mores, lanterns, bug spray & more
– Clever felt “campfire” + kid size teepee with a “Wipe Yer Paws” sign
– Darling bear cake pops, s’mores kits and mini canteens
– Scavenger hunt activity with adorable “checklist”
PARTY DETAILS, as told by Daisy…
Li-Ann from Ham & Pea Design & Paperie is on my speed dial for invitations. I consulted her right away as soon as I came up with the theme one month before the event and she suggested a logo for the party and incorporated it in the invitation.
My good friend, the gorgeous Helen from Kiss My Cakes, created an awesome raspberry mud cake with the most adorable campfire and teepee cake toppers. She also created some camping themed cupcakes to go on the table. There were a few grizzly bear cake pops made by the talented Anita from Cake Envy, which were attacked by all the kids when they hit the dessert table. I wanted some awesome camping themed cookies on the dessert table, and I always turn to Noo from Dessert Menu Please for the best butter cookies ever. She created a swiss army knife, a kerosene lamp, a s’more, a bear sign, a SPAM, an insect repellent and some fallen leaves. We had a small s’mores bar with jars of marshmallows, chocolate and crackers served along with some chocolate milk.
My wonderful dad made the national park sign and the mini archery stand from wood we got from the local hard ware store. I wanted a wintery feel, so I found this gorgeous plaid blanket from Ikea and used it as a table cloth. I used wooden stumps I purchased from a florist as risers and also as a vase. I had two native floral arrangement on the table and decorated the table with some pinecones. Have you heard of washi tape? I ran out of ideas to dress the mini vintage milk bottles and came across a wood grain washi tape in a local stationery store and thought it would be great the wrap the bottles in them.
We had a scavenger hunt where everyone got really into it looking for all items around the backyard to tick off. And to make it a little tricky there was no real rocks to be found except for fake rock on the cake. The kids had heaps of fun running in and out the teepee, and my little boy was very happy to send his guest home with a s’mores kit and a mini camping canteen as party favours.
