Vintage Americana 4th of July Party {& BBQ Picnic}

Vintage Americana 4th of July Party {& BBQ Picnic}

Mindy from Creative Juice loves celebrating the 4th of July, and that passion definitely shows through in this fantastic Vintage Americana 4th of July Picnic she dreamed up. From good ol’ fashioned BBQ food to patriotic cakes and layered red/white/blue drinks, I think Uncle Sam would be very proud!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

– Patriotic and “star spangled” cakes
– Cupcakes topped with fondant fireworks, displayed on a giant candle holder
– A classic & mouthwatering BBQ: fruit salad (with festive watermelon stars!), corn on the cob, ribs & sweet potato fries in a rustic printable pack
– Adorable striped fabric headbands & holiday outfits for the kids

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Mindy
:

The fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays! I wanted to keep the colors authentic to the American Flag so we stayed with a dark navy and rustic red color scheme.

It wouldn’t be a 4th of July party with out good old BBQ food!  We enjoyed some classic bbq staples: slow cooked ribs, corn on the cob, fruit salad, & sweet potato fries! I used a small cookie cutter to cut the watermelon into stars.

The layered drink was one of my favorite parts – once you know the technique, the possibilities are endless! Choose drinks with varying levels of sugar content per serving & fill the glass full of ice. Add the most dense {the one with the most sugar} first to create the bottom layer. Slowly add the other drinks one layer at a time in descending sugar content order! The layers will remain separate for at least 10 min and then begin to mix so leave this as the last step before guests arrive.

The dessert table was right inside off the patio to avoid the direct heat & sun. I created the “cupcake stadium” by repurposing candleholders – they were the perfect shape and size to hold a cupcake. I used my cricut to create the cupcake wrappers and candy favor boxes using scrapbook paper.
