Girlie & Modern Tea Party in the Park

tea party sweets table and cupcake toppers

If you think girlie tea parties require linen doilies, white gloves and fancy china, think again! This gorgeous Tea Party theme from Paige of Paiges of Style proves that frilly, feminine details and modern styles most can certainly play together nicely. ;)

The fabulous paper party details that Paige designed for this tea party inspired a host of beautiful treats – from flower-adorned cake pops and macarons to a “simple stunning” fondant cake embellished with an incredible fondant ruffle flower. Book Review: celebraTORI by Tori Spelling

celebratori party planning book by tori spelling review

Hi there! Amy from Amy Nichols Special Events here. I’m so excited to be reviewing Tori Spelling’s new book: celebraTORI!

I must admit I didn’t know what to expect when I picked up a copy of “celebraTORI: Unleashing Your Inner Party Planner to Entertain Family and Friends”. When I hear the name Tori Spelling, my mind still immediately jumps to Donna Martin as opposed to “entertaining goddess”, so I was pleasantly surprised to find her book well organized and full of some great entertaining tips!

celebraTORI spread - drinks

celebratori - lucite mum balls tutorial

The Introduction

In the beginning of the book, Tori talks about her exposure to grand parties from a young age, thanks to her famous parents. It is not surprising that she ended up loving the art of the affair, though she admits her style is more cozy and family/friend-focused now instead of the lavish bashes favored by her parents.

While she acknowledges she’s a control freak and décor is now her “obsession” – the parties she started throwing in her early years of independence had the expected bumps and starts, along with some failed kitchen experiments. But those experiences of course led to lessons and learning what works and what doesn’t. (more…)

Tutorial: Rainbow Cake with Homemade, All-Natural Dyes

It’s the ever-popular rainbow cake… with a natural twist! One of our creative HWTM Community Members – Kelsey Hilts of Itsy Bitsy Foodies – is here today sharing her clever tutorial for a Rainbow Cake with Natural Dyes! The rainbow colors are achieved using colorful fruits, veggies, and egg yolks. Thanks so much to Kelsey for sharing this creative recipe with others that want to avoid regular food coloring and still eat their rainbow cake too. ;)

THE CHALLENGE

From Kelsey: “Rainbow cakes are everywhere these days. I made one last summer and my family and guests loved the bright, vibrant colors. But in the back of my mind I couldn’t help but think of the negative discussion and controversy surrounding chemical food coloring. My husband was actually the one to challenge me to make a rainbow cake with natural food dyes.

My son, who is my toughest critic, ate it (while exclaiming, It’s beautiful, Mommy!) The rest of my family concurred that surprisingly it tasted just like cake and that it seemed much more palatable than the typical bright rainbow cake made with synthetic dyes. So, I considered the baking experiment a success. I would much rather serve my loved ones a beet or carrot-colored cake than an artificially-colored alternative. (more…)
