Rustic-Style “Sweet and Spooky” Halloween

rustic vintage halloween party

Paige Kepner from of Paiges of Style is back with a super-chic take on Halloween! The black, gray and rusty orange colors of this vintage-rustic style “Sweet and Spooky” Halloween features a refreshing variation on the traditional Halloween palette and feels decidedly grown up, yet still appropriate for pint-sized guests.

In addition to the cool stationery elements (which are available in Paige’s Etsy shop), I’m loving the fabulous pumpkin cake pops featuring “spooktacular” twig handles, the “layered pumpkin pie” mason jars, and the mod all-white frames and background props. Paige even spray painted a $10 table from Goodwill for the perfect pop of rusty orange! How’s that for resourcefulness? And of course I’m especially smitten with this sign in particular… ;)

{Recipe} Chocolate Caramel Apple Cookies

Chocolate Caramel Apple Cookies Recipe

Homemade caramel apples drizzled in chocolate are always a popular fall treat, but if you want another way to enjoy the yummy combo of chocolate-caramel-apple flavor, how about baking up a batch of Chocolate Caramel Apple COOKIES?!

This is similar to a traditional chocolate chip cookie recipe, but with the addition of melted caramel and diced apples to the batter, and chopped chocolate-and-caramel candy bars (I used Milky Way® Simply Caramel in Fun Size) swapped out for most of the chocolate chips. I made a batch of these on Friday and they are seriously soooo good! I’m not sure if it’s the caramel or the diced apples in the batter, but they seemed to turn out even softer & doughier than traditional chocolate chip cookies.

Gorgeous Vintage-Gothic Halloween Party

Vintage Gothic Glam Halloween Party

I just adore the wonderful Victorian flair that Suzanna from Mon Tresor incorporated into this beautiful Vintage-Gothic Halloween Party. The entire display looks fantastic, but the charming glass bottles adorned with black lace and bakers twine are definitely a stand-out! Wouldn’t these translate beautifully to a lingerie themed bridal shower or bachelorette party too?!

Also really loving the use of black & white houndstooth throughout the Anders Ruff printables… it’s a perfect compliment to the fabulous  doily-inspired pattern on the dessert table backdrop!

Fabulous Neon + Neutral “So Glad You Were Born” Birthday Party

Neutral is the new black. Lately, it’s one of my favorite “colors” to design with, and Sharon of Cupcakes and Cutlery created the most fabulous Neon + Neutral “So Glad You Were Born” Birthday Party by cleverly pairing it with neon pink and yellow! How unique to take your traditional “Happy Birthday” saying and turn it on it’s head!

This party just looks like a blast…  Traditional birthday elements like cookies, balloons, cupcakes, and flowers are mixed in with fun & not-so-traditional retro items like disco balls, embellished roller skates, mad libs, and more. Even the pool deck area is the perfect backdrop for this incredibly bright birthday party.

How perfect are the large wood cut-out “E’s” to recognize the birthday girl? Spray paint was definitely Sharon’s best friend when putting together this birthday bash. Everything looks better with a coat of spray paint. Don’t you agree? I just can’t get over all the little vignettes, complete with throwback details like the paper fortune teller, jar of mad libs, and disco balls. There’s such a fabulous quirky element to this party that already has me excited for what Sharon will come up with next!

Pink & Green Kung Fu Panda Birthday Party

Kung Fu Panda Birthday Party

Not only is this pink & green “Kung Fu Marley” Birthday Party that Ebony of Sparkling Events & Designs created for her daughter ridiculously cute to look at – it’s also filled with super-creative activities for the kids! Between the “Panda Art” table and adorable “Panda Sanctuary” where party guests got to stuff their own little panda bears, what’s not to love?! There was even a kid-sized Pink Pagoda built from scratch by family members – and even though lots of time went into building this of course, it only cost about $25 in materials… IMPRESSIVE!

And we can’t forget the eating of the treats…which is another “activity” that I’m sure the kids loved. ;) From a fabulous cake complete with edible bamboo to amazingly detailed sugar cookies and darling glittery glassine bags filled with popcorn & “panda treats”, there was definitely some talent that went into these sweets… and this entire party!

“Smashed Pumpkin” & “Poisonous” Parfaits

Smashed Pumpkin Halloween Parfaits

CREATIVE PRESENTATION is always a huge plus when it comes to desserts, but sometimes that “so cute!” presentation can also mean “way too time consuming”, which is never a good thing in my book. Luckily that is NOT the case with these fun little mini parfaits, which were also inspired by the fabulous Bewitched party from Frog Prince Paperie!

These mini desserts are actually VERY quick & easy to make (yay!) – especially if you have a piping tool, which helps get the pudding into those narrow parfait glasses both quickly and neatly. I used Wilton’s Dessert Decorator Plus, which is around $14.99 and available in-store at Michaels. If you use instant pudding, these honestly take about 15-20 minutes to make, from start to finish. Nice. ;)

This gorgeous HONEYBEE GENDER REVEAL Party by Nicolle of Libby Lane Press is absolutely BUZZING with creativity and fabulous DIY details!

Let’s start with the fabulous ripped fabric and lace backdrop, shall we? On top of the table you’ll find everything from adorable bumble bee cake pops and embellished marshmallows to chocolate covered Oreos all decked out with a honeycomb pattern and tiny sugar bees. I just adore how all of the candy jars and accent signs are embellished with bits of burlap, fabric, & lace too! “Spellbound Sweets” Part 1: Captive Candy & Wicked-Good Caramel Apples

DIY Halloween Candy Server - Skeleton Hand

Here are the first 2 projects from our SPELLBOUND SWEETS Halloween Table: the “Captive Candy” Treat Server starring an orange skeleton hand reaching out from a sugary grave, and “Wicked” Caramel Apples, which are simply homemade caramel apples with knobby twig “handles” for a “witch’s broom” effect. Both projects are easy & inexpensive!

Side note on the apples: I used these caramel apples in an early segment on the local morning news, then re-set the entire table at home for a photo shoot much later the same day. Amidst all the hectic-ness, I forgot to return the apples to the fridge in between the segment & the photo shoot (oops!), so the caramel started to puddle downward off the apples before we actually started taking the pictures! Silver lining: at least this is a good reminder to keep your homemade caramel apples chilled until right before the party starts! P.S. They still tasted great after the shoot. :)

And speaking of spooky, guests were greeted by a silent projection of the black & white movie Dracula, which was playing from one of the front windows of the house. Absolutely LOVE this idea!

Bold & Cheerful East Coast Clambake

East Coast Clam Bake Party Ideas

This beautiful East Coast Clambake designed by Desiree Spinner Events just looks like such a fun party! The bright red and yellow color palette gives off such a festive, happy vibe – especially when brought to life through fun details like red chiavari chairs, red & white check napkins and vibrant yellow sunflowers displayed in mason jars.

Looking at these pics got me thinking too… sunflowers are readily available right now – our local grocery store has actually featured a huge bin of sunflower bunches out front for a while now – so for a cheerful twist on the usual autumn palette, why not try pairing sunflowers with bright red and a few rustic textures and elements for your pretty fall dinner parties & celebrations this year? Sounds like a good plan to me… :)

Petals & Popcorn Bridal Shower {Part 2} Party Decor + Free Printables

Petals & Popcorn Pink Purple Bridal Shower

You’ll find links to download the 4×6 Signs and square “Mr. Right“and “She Said Yes!” labels below.

The wooden doll cut out of “Mr. Right” is holding a mini engagement ring made from a strip of felt + the top of one of the Diamond Diamante pins used elsewhere in the shower (I just snipped off the metal pin portion & hot glued the top). He matches the “Bride” cut-out featured in the Table Centerpiece. :)

Petals & Popcorn Pink Purple Bridal Shower

One of my favorite details from this shower was the hutch embellishment. We just used leftover petals from the 2 silk hydrangea stems to create a “cluster effect” on one of the top corners. They’re attached with small Glue Dots. Super easy! This idea was inspired by the sea shells climbing the walls of the restaurant venue in this rehearsal dinner.

Darling Pink Flower Party with Rustic Charm

Birthday Cake displayed on small wooden stool

Get ready to fall head-over-heels in love with the sweet details of this oh-so-pretty Pink Flower Party created by the talented Kori of Paper & Pigtails!

Inspired by her daughter’s love of nature and everything pink, a flower/garden party was the perfect choice to celebrate Charlotte’s 4th birthday.  The use of burlap elements in contrast to the soft, subtle color palette was just the right touch for adding a tiny bit of rustic charm to this girly nature party…

The creative DIY flowers that Kori made with her daughter – using crepe paper, fabric, and cupcake liners – really brought a magical feel to the party decor. Beautiful rosettes and gorgeous fabric flowers adorned everything from the table runners to the centerpieces. One of my favorite elements is definitely Brunch Table though… not only is it pretty to look at, it’s filled with a variety of scrumptious breakfast treats including scones, mini muffins, cinnamon rolls and adorable “waffle flowers” that Kori creatively displayed on The Pastry Pedestal™!

Keep reading for all of the delightful details and photos blooming with inspiration! You will not want to miss the hand-painted cake pops or the other stunning components of the dessert table.

P.S. Sticking with the use of burlap and replacing the soft pink color palette with a selection of rich colors reflective of Autumn makes this theme versatile for any Fall celebrations you have coming up too. Enjoy!! (more…)

Playful & Vibrant 40th Birthday Celebration

40th birthday party ideas

This 40th Birthday Celebration for the lovely Amy of Living Locurto is so colorful & playful… doesn’t it just look like a blast?! She wanted to celebrate this milestone birthday with her girlfriends, so they enjoyed a night of dinner, drinks & dessert in her backyard followed by an outdoor screening of the movie Bridesmaids. FUN!

I had the pleasure of meeting Amy in person at a Michael’s event in Dallas that we attended earlier this summer, and this vibrant, upbeat party definitely reflects her personality! In addition to the fabulous cake (WOW!) and all the bright colors and patterns, I love the personal touches like the photos hanging from the branch centerpiece and around the tree. A Classic & Rustic Kids Halloween Party

I’m loving the classic color combinations and traditional feel of this Rustic Halloween Party by Kim of The Celebration Shoppe! With adorable Frankenstein, Jack-O-Lantern, and Ghost candy dish pedestals, cookies, and more. . . it’s definitely a TREAT of a party! Kim’s inspiration came from the oldie-but-goodie classic Halloween costumes that many of us wore then we were children. There’s something really nostalgic and timeless about this party. The old barn doesn’t hurt either {wink}

Oh, and did you notice the adorable little screech owl that Kim used throughout? Petals & Popcorn Bridal Shower {Part 1}

Petals & Popcorn Bridal Shower

I’m super excited to share a brand new HWTM theme with you today: PETALS & POPCORN! It’s tailored for a bridal shower here, but you could also utilize this theme for a girlie milestone birthday or baby shower.

This one comes with free printables AND a few fun twists… it’s actually my entry for the $100 Designer Tablescape Challenge from Sparkling Events & Designs that I participated in recently, along with 11 other {super talented!} party designers that came up with some seriously fabulous, imaginative designs! The theme was “Go Green“, but we were told we could interpret it however we wanted, so I went with the “eco” angle instead of the literal color, with a focus on re-purpose / recycle / reuse. The “re-purpose” aspect really helped with the budget as well…since the “tablecloth” you see here is actually my $25 extra bedroom duvet. =) More on this below.

You can check out all 12 of the challenge entries right here and vote for your favorite {up to once daily} until next Monday, October 17th.

Petals & Popcorn Bridal Shower

For the Challenge, we had to design a tablescape for 4-6 and incorporate desserts and an activity idea into the theme while spending less than $100 total, but we were allowed to use a few items that we already owned – plates, glassware, household accessories, etc. I was able to stretch the budget pretty far (even the hutch behind our dining room table got a “makeover”!) by using every single scrap of the fabric, lace, and silk flowers/petals that I purchased, utilizing microwave popcorn for vase fillers, and being diligent about shopping for sale items! See the detailed breakdown of what I spent right here.

I had a ton of fun working on this theme, but my very favorite elements were probably the 2 embellished wooden cutouts. I made a “Bride” for the table centerpiece and a matching “Mr. Right” (who is holding an engagement ring & tiny felt flower bunch) for a separate arrangement displayed on the hutch. More on him later…or you can check him our right now in the full Petals & Popcorn party album. In the meantime, here comes the bride… *wink*

Halloween Ghost Treat Display

This super easy treat display was also part of our Spells & Potions table, but you could really use this idea on its own as well (especially if you don’t feel like displaying jars of Zombie Brains and Snake Venom along with it!).

My goal was to create something cute-but-quick-&-easy that utilized store bought treats to keep the process simple and the kitchen mess minimal. Sooo… Marshmallow-Ghost-Peeps-on-a-stick it is!
