Colorful & Creative, Art-Inspired Birthday Party

Art Inspired Birthday Party

I’m pretty much head-over-heels in LOVE with this colorful Art-inspired Birthday Party that Abigail from Paper & Cake created for her daughter’s 9th birthday! Maybe it’s because looking at these photos takes me back to one of my favorite activities as a kid… or maybe it’s the insanely adorableRainbow Cakeball Palette (ya, I’m pretty sure those have something to do with it!) – but this party just looks like such a blast. Sometimes the simple concepts are the best!

If you’d like to recreated a similar get-together at home, the adorable “paint splash printables used throughout the party available in the Paper & Cake etsy shop. {I really think you could incorporate these cool printables into some creative adult-oriented celebrations as well!}

Sweet As Can BEE Housewarming Party

“Bee” prepared to be swept away by the sweet details of this honey-themed housewarming party hosted by Kori of Paper and Pigtails! She did an absolutely “bee”autiful job welcoming friends and family into her new home.

By using a simple theme inspired by the various types of honey that are readily available at the abundance of farmer’s markets in her new town and choosing a color palette based on the color of her new house, Kori was able to keep things warm and sweet – everything a home should be! And although this open house was hosted in the Fall, this theme transitions easily into a spring or summer housewarming by simply replacing the wheat bundles for bouquets of fresh daisies.

The photos that follow are buzzing with inspiration“BEE” sure to read on for all of the sweet-as-honey details…

Cinderella-Inspired Royal Birthday Celebration

Cinderella birthday party ideas

Andrea from Dolce Drive truly created a FAIRY-TALE of a birthday party for her adorable daughter Sabrina with this Cinderella-inspired soirée! One of the things I love most about this particular Cinderella party is that – in the spirit of the original tale – Andrea incorporated both the “princess” elements AND the “peasant” side of the story!

The little girls were actually greeted with patchwork aprons and hankies for their hair (which I almost think look cuter than the tiaras, btw!) and told to “finish their chores” before they could attend the upcoming Royal Tea Party celebration. After HAPPILY doing “chores” like baking fake cookies, “sweeping the chimney” and eating lunch, they were transformed into princesses for the Royal Celebration, where they dined on “tea” (apple juice) and sweet treats, alongside a very special guest!

We’re loving the BOLD zebra twist that Jasmine from The Couture Cakery added to the always-classic Tiffany-blue/white color palette for this dessert table she recently styled. The simple, all-white serving dishes and symmetrical layout of the treats provide a nice balance to the high-contrast zebra patterns, and the result is a table that’s modern, stylish, and the perfect amount of playful!

{And if you love this look and want to try something REALLY bold for spring/summer… consider swapping out the soft blue for a bright lemon yellow or vibrant lime green!}

Event Conference: Uncensored! {March 16-18}

Uncensored Event Business Conference - San Diego

If you’re a current or aspiring event planner/entrpreneur in the SoCal area – there’s a fantastic 3-day conference in San Diego next week called UNCENSORED! The Secrets of Event Planning Revealed.

This conference is very much focused on the BUSINESS side of event planning, which is something that’s SO important but often gets pushed aside because we’re always so busy with the actual work! As much as we all love to be creative in our personal areas of expertise – whether it’s food, decor, floral, stationery, photography, or anything else associated with events – at the end of the day we really DO have bills to pay, right?! And I can tell you from first-hand experience that it’s very easy to get carried away in the design/creative side of things and suddenly realize the hourly breakdown of your fee has dwindled down to peanuts! Drink of the Week: POMtiki Smash

POM Wonderful - POMtiki Smash Cocktail

How good does this POMtiki Smash cocktail look?! It features pomegranate juice, pineapple juice, almond (or orgeat) syrup, and rum, and has a cool tropical vibe that makes me think of relaxing in Hawaii… ahhh, Hawaii! The beautiful reddish-purple color also looks fabulous garnished with the bright yellow pineapple wedge.

This would be a fun signature drink idea for a Tropical-themed cocktail or dinner party… and would be great enjoyed alongside POM Salsa or Pomegranate, Gouda, and Pear Quesadillas for a complimentary flavor & look!

P.S. If you love pomegranate (or are doing a party where RED is a key color), there are a ton of yummy-looking recipe ideas on the POM Wonderful website. A friend just told me about them and I was surprised to find so many!

Laura’s Cirque du Bebe Baby Shower – Part 1

Cirque Du Bebe - Circus Baby Shower

Today’s Real Party feature is a gorgeous + fun + glam baby shower (for event designer Laura Ritchie) that holds a special place in my heart for a few reasons… First of all, if you’ve been following HWTM for a while, you might recognize the theme. This shower was inspired by the Cirque Du Bebe theme that I originally created for actress Tisha Campbell. They also incorporated my Cirque invitation design, coordinating party elements, and {free} downloadable signs. I can’t tell you how fun it is to see something that you’ve designed become part of an important occasion for someone else!

Secondly, the hostesses (with the help of Laura’s creative flair) did an AMAZING job building on the theme and making it their own! I am seriously SO very impressed by everything… especially the fabulous cupcake stand that will be covered next in Part 2!

Cirque Du Bebe - Circus Baby Shower

And third of all, (cue the heartstrings) there’s unfortunately a sad element to this story that also serves as a great example of the support of family members in hard times… The adorable mom-to-be, Laura– lost her mother to cancer when she was just 8 weeks pregnant. The silver lining is that her 3 aunts stepped up to throw this amazing shower for her (& in other ways of course too)… but I’m sure they wanted the shower to be even more special & beautiful given the circumstances. And that’s exactly what it was…

Hello Hanna: Fun + Modern Party Stuff

Hello Hannah Activity Placemats

I was researching where to find these adorable mini sweet stands recently, and stumbled across the website of the company that actually makes them… hello hanna. Not sure if I’ve been living under a rock or what, but I’m already smitten with this brand! Hello, fabulous placemats! Hello, darling wishing birds! Hello, amazing wishing tree! Hello, creative books!

I’m toying with the idea of using the hello, jungle placemat set for the kids table at my daughter’s first birthday party this month. We’re doing a parade-inspired theme with lots of elephants & other “parading” animals. Here’s a peek at the invite (personal info has been changed).

Hello Hannah Activity Placemats

The placemat colors are a little off from the party’s color palette though…sigh… but I might be able to embellish them a little to help tie everything together at the table. If not, next time we’ll just have to design a theme completely around one of these sets! =) This robot version is fun too: (more…)

Real Parties: Rock Star Birthday Party {Part 2}

Guitar Picks

Are you ready for Part 2 of Jackson’s awesome Rock Star Birthday Party? I know, you’ve been dying to see the rest of the photos and to get every last detail, right? *wink* Well, I won’t keep you waiting any longer. Here goes…

{DIY FAUX DRUM SET}
I wanted to include some other “rock” elements in the party! I first saw this DIY Drum Set on Oh Dee Doh. I thought it was such cool way to add a bit of height and functionality to the Dessert Table. For the “Faux” Drum Set, I sent my hubby to Ace Hardware to pick up some empty paint cans. I had originally thought about painting them, but I love the look of the shinny metallic metal. The large bucket in the middle was white and we (my husband does all the spray painting because I tend to be a little wild and untrustworthy with spray paint) painted that to match. Then I cut out some nautical rock stars with my vinyl cutter and used them to embellish the buckets.

Faux Drum Set

{DIY CUSTOM GUITAR PICKS}
These have to be one of my favorite elements from the party! I looked into having custom guitar picks made, but it was way out of my budget. My husband mentioned he had heard about a “guitar pick punch” and I knew I had to track it down. To my surprise and delight, I found a Pick Punch and all the supplies at a really reasonable price! I printed out photos and other designs that matched the theme on full sheet label stock. I trimmed the sheet into strips (I could fit two rows across) and applied the full sheet label stock to the pick plastic. Then I used the pick punch, just like you would a paper punch, and punched out each pick! I loved each and every one. (more…)

Rustic Glam Baby Shower

I always love it when people combine two different looks to come up with something fresh and unique! For example, check out this fabulous “Rustic Glam” Baby Shower theme from the talented Katie of Katie Grace Designs! She did such a great job pairing rustic elements like wooden textures and tree stump “risers” with glam accents like lace, craft jewels, and edible gold beads.

The attention to detail at this party is just fantastic… the glass mugs on the hot cocoa bar were adorned with lace and sparkly flowers, wooden spoon “drink stirrers” were dipped in chocolate and embellished with rhinestones (and fanned out in rustic dishes for a cute presentation), cupcakes were displayed on a vintage shelf (a $4 flea-market find!) and dressed up with lace & metallic gold pipe cleaners… and much, much more!
