Gorgeous “Sweet Blessings” Baby Shower

Sweet Blessings Baby Shower

This oh-so-pretty baby shower – created by the lovely & talented Andrea of Dolce Drive for her longtime friend – is not only stunning and beautiful to look at, but there’s also a heartfelt story of loss and new life that goes along with it (heads up that you might need some tissues when you read it), which makes this particular event an extra special one for mom-to-be and her friends & family.

I’ll let Andrea share the full details of that story below, but first I’m excited to share lots of visual eye candy with your from this gorgeous & sweet celebration of a new baby girl…

Rustic Owl-Inspired Baby Shower {Part 1}

Rustic Owl Themed Baby Shower

SO very excited to share this downright fabulous RUSTIC OWLS Baby Shower with you today for a few different reasons: 1.) Let’s start with the obvious… it’s just so darn cute! (without being overly cutesie) 2.) It’s a co-ed celebration, which we still don’t see a whole lot of, so it’s always exciting when these come in… especially when they’re this well-done! And 3.) The lead designer – Kelly of A Savvy Event – is a friend from my childhood hometown – and it’s always fun to showcase the talents of a friend!

So without further adieu, here’s Part 1 of this stylish & DIY-filled soirée… which covers the tables, decorations & drinks station. The food & sweets station will be covered in Part 2 later today.

Darling Dessert Table

I’m seriously OBSESSED with this adorable, vintage-style Scooter Birthday Party that Laurie of Gallamore West created for her son’s fourth birthday. Every single detail just makes my heart skip a beat!

The details of this party were perfectly designed, from the mini fabric buntings used throughout, to the distressed “Jake” letters adorning the mantel and the simply stylish berry baskets, to the incredibly creative “Sugar Cookie Speed Bumps” and the Scooter Decorating Station. And speaking of ruffle cakes, check out the beauties starring in this fun & whimsical HAPPY TRAILS Baby Shower created by Katie of Saving Dates. Macy’s {Colorful} Birthday Parade – Part 3

Colorful & Modern First Birthday Parade

Here we go with PART 3 of my daughter Macy’s “First Birthday Parade”… I realize this last part of the recap is quite spread out from PART 1 and PART 2, but with the way things have been this year, at this point I’m actually just happy to get this up before she turns TWO! Especially since she will have a brand new little sibling to attend the party by the time the next birthday arrives. =)

This theme was chosen as a play on the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade… we just swapped out “Thanksgiving” for “Birthday”! You’ll find a recap of the indoor sweets table (pictured above), rainbow smash cake, food/drinks, activities, and a few more indoor decorations… Here goes:

{Recipe} The Best Frosted Sugar Cookies*

Frosted Sugar Cookie Recipe

When I was in the 4th grade, my class put together a cookbook as a fundraiser. Everyone submitted recipes from their friends and family, and the illustrations for the chapter dividers and front/back covers were all done by the members of my class… so of course it was a true work of art *wink*… at least to our mothers!

One thing that is arguably a work of art in the kitchen though… the sugar cookie recipe that I first discovered in that book! I honestly can’t remember who originally submitted it and it seems that what I’d thought was a “beloved” cookbook was somehow a casualty of one of our moves growing up (hmmm…), but I started making these little gems regularly around the 6th grade for school functions, friends’ birthdays, holidays, etc… and it kind of became one of my “things”. MANY years later… I can’t tell you how many of my jr. high and high school friends still come out of the woodwork on facebook around the holidays or their kids’ birthdays and ask for “the sugar cookie recipe“. “THE” is all the description that I need to know what they’re talking about. =)

Frosted Sugar Cookie Recipe

I think it’s finally time to post about these – so that instead of countless emails the recipe will be easily accessible in one spot. It’s really a “back to basics” recipe… eggs, sugar, flour, BUTTER… but the secrets to making them great are the cook time (you almost want them undercooked so they’re super soft), and GENEROUS amounts of frosting. No skimping with this one! (more…)

Macy’s {Colorful} Birthday Parade – Part 2

Macy's First Birthday Parade - Birthday Party

So……I blogged the first part of my daughter’s first birthday party a few weeks ago and had every intention of posting the rest a few days later, and then life {and work} just kept getting in the way! I’ve come to realize that I’m going to have to blog this in pieces in order to get the rest of the party up since there are a gazillion+1  photos to go through and I still have yet to find that elusive time-freezing mechanism. =)

So without further delay, here’s Part 2 of Macy’s Colorful Birthday Parade: The KIDS TABLE and FAVOR TABLE. I went a little nuts with the labels and signage in general at her party (because that’s the part I love working on the most!).

Summer BBQ Theme + Free Party Printables

Summer BBQ party ideas

Looking for a creative way to celebrate Memorial Day… or another outdoor summer get-together? Good! Because we have a new Summer BBQ theme for you today, complete with ideas for a Make-it-Yourself hot dog station (which keeps things easy on the host!), creative & affordable food presentation ideas, and free BBQ themed printables…(scroll down for download links).

This theme is super easy to pull togetherpromise! Aside from the shopping, which we did most of the day before, this entire theme was put together & shot in a single day – including the design of the printables!

Summer BBQ party ideas

One of my favorite elements from this shoot was a $7 plastic picnic tablecloth that I picked up in the camping aisle at Target. We used this one tablecloth to embellish everything (from vases to soda bottles to the drinks tub) and still had so much left over!

I also loved using corn chips as filler for the corn-on-the-cob sticks and Hot Dog Sign display… probably because the method for putting these together seemed to be one handful of chips for the vase, one handful for my mouth, one handful for the vase, one handful for my mouth… you get the picture. =) (more…)
