PARTY DETAILS, as told by Angela…
“This was a vintage pony party full of girly, shabby chic details for a darling three year old. Think pink, lace, ribbons, tulle poms, doilies, chandeliers, burlap banners, crusty dressers to hold party favors and lots of horsey details!
Our party was held at Irvine Rail Park, which has train rides, pony rides and beautiful free standing pavilions with red roofs, picnic benches and bbqs, along with tons of grassy areas with big shady trees to play in and lovely split rail fence that we dressed up with handmade ribbon garlands. Picnic benches were dressed with burlap runners and wildflower centerpieces in tin cans dressed up with scrapbook paper, lace and ribbon.
FOOD & DRINKS
Each child’s placesetting had a brown paper snack sack topped with a doily clipped with a horsey that had each child’s name. In the sack were the birthday girl’s favorite treats – Cheetos, raisins, apple sauces, Capris Suns. Theses snack sacks sat on top of pony coloring pages that we bound with vintage-y scrap paper covers. Then we gave each child a box of crayons – turned inside out to recycle and get that brown paper box look and tied up with a ribbon to finish it off.
For food and drink details, we had a pink lemonade stand with mason jars and pink and white striped paper straws and fab Shirley Temples in a jar – fizzy and fun! Barbequed hot dogs and hamburger station, a potato chip bar and an over the top dessert buffet. With a burlap and award ribbon back drop and a pink and white pinstriped table cover, the stage was set for our shabby chic pony dessert spread. Caramel corn in doily cones on a stick were set in a rustic white pioneer wagon, fabulous hand piped doily sugar cookies, white chocolate dipped Twinkies, a powdered donut layer ‘cake’, chocolate truffles, sandwich cookies… Then we brought in a baker’s rack and filled it with strawberry and cream cheese layer cakes in a jar, tied up with strips of linen and served with wooden spoons. also on the bakers rack were gorgeous pink rose icing cupcakes, each on its own individual cream cupcake stand (made with dollar store finds and spray painted to match or decor) and finally a mini birthday cake covered in roses and topped with a miniature pennant birthday banner and pony.
We also brought in a crusty ramshackle dresser (found on the side of the road and FREE) with a chipped paint exterior (extra shabby, extra chic) and placed its drawers on its counter top to hold the party favors for the boys and girls (colts and fillies) wrapped in butcher paper and twine and burlap sacks and pink velvet ribbon. Favors were toy ponies with brushes for the girls and and wooden pony puzzles for the boys.
For activities we had cream soda bottle toss, stick pony races and pony rides for the kids. We also set up a Winner’s Circle photo booth set against a red barn wall with a life sized stuffed pony for the kids to sit on while they posed with different hats and props like vintage frames.
DIY projects were just about everything: cupcake stands, ribbon garland, doily garlands, most of the treats on the dessert table, lunch sacks, burlap banner…”
