Ready to feast your eyes on something MEGA Fantastic? Good… because the creative details in this cool Megamind themed birthday party that Dina of Deliciously Darling Events created for her son Malik are exactly that… not to mention truly mind-blowing!
As Dina explains below, “Megamind is very Superhero meets Rock-n-Roll” – and that’s definitely the vibe she brought to life with this party! A few of my favorite details include the giant glittery “M”s featured on the tables & above the dessert buffet, the bright red hero capes adorning the backs of the chairs, a cityscape shower curtain utilized as the candy buffet backdrop, and super clever “MegaMalik” and “MetroMalik” faces (playing on the main characters in the movie) incorporated on everything from the napkin rings to the bottled drinks!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Dina…
“The minute my son, Malik, saw the movie Megamind he knew he wanted a Megamind 4th birthday party. It is so fun when they are old enough to tell you the theme they want for their birthday party! Immediately I began gathering ideas for my precious little client. The great thing about Megamind is that he’s very Superhero meets Rock-n-Roll so it was fun to merge those two concepts together. Glitter + Hero Capes = Mega-awesome. I was really inspired by the Rock-n-Roll and Lichtenstein Superhero parties recently featured on HWTM.
The party was held at my parents’ house – a venue that has a beautiful fountain, pond and lots of room for our little Mega Heroes. Thankfully the weather cooperated and we were able to have the party outdoors as planned.
Since Megamind is a relatively new movie, I wanted to feature the main characters, Megamind and Metroman, in an unconventional way. I put my son’s face on the characters face and used the ‘MegaMalik’ and ‘MetroMalik’ images throughout the party. Black, white, silver and different shades of blue were incorporated in almost every element of the party.
I found these beautiful tablecloths from Target’s summer entertaining collection and knew I had to use them! The small centerpieces consisted of small white tins with tissue poms and the ‘MegaMalik’ and ‘MetroMalik’ faces. Aidreen was so wonderful to work with and the tissue poms really added pizzazz to the party. For the large centerpieces, I really wanted to showcase the letter M. Pretty convenient that my son’s name also starts with the letter M. I painted and glittered the M and added lightning bolts and stars coming out the top and glued it to two stacking boxes. I cut a cityscape out of metallic scrapbook paper and put it on the largest stacking box. The great thing about these centerpieces is that they were really affordable.
A MegaMalik napkin ring and plastic silver fork completed each place setting. I also created custom water bottle labels with space for the child’s name.
Custom Superhero capes (out of felt) were made for each boy and girl. The capes were attached to the back of each chair and were passed out to each child upon arrival. The kids just loved running around wearing capes with their initial on it.
There were a few ‘OMG’ moments that I had when I was putting the elements of the candy table together. The first was walking through the Walgreens one day I came across a box of Megamind Airheads and quickly drove to all the neighboring Walgreens until I had enough for the party. The second was when I found the backdrop. The cityscape shower curtain worked so perfectly. Naturally the candy, ribbon and printables were shades of blue, black and silver. In order to give the table a little more industrial villain look, I added a metal paper runner.
White gift bags from Michael’s were embellished with the a Megamind Printable and were the perfect size to hold all the candy and party favors.
There is something kind of wonderful about fresh cotton candy. Blueberry cotton candy was made to order. Both parents and children really enjoyed it.
The birthday cake was a yummy two tiered creation from Cakes by Darcy . The top layer was chocolate cake with peanut butter filling and the bottom layer was vanilla cake with blueberry filling. Delicious! The fondant work on the cake along with the cupcakes was by the talented Ms. Charynn from Two Sugar Babies. The cake and cupcake toppers were better than I could have imagined. Other cake table elements included, sugar cookie pops (by Just Desserts by Dina), blueberry jello cups, oreo cakesters and blueberry & chocolate cake pops made by me. As a time saver, I used dunkin doughnut munchkins and dipped them in candy melts…shhhh our little secret. They were delicious and easy to make.
Jone’s soda labels were created with images from my son’s Megamind photoshoot. The photoshoot pictures were used in frames along with Megamind quotes. Having pictures of the birthday child around really adds a personal touch to a party.
I am addicted to Starbucks so I had to include Frappachinos.
Other refreshments included blue Gatorade, blue juice for the kids and lots of custom labeled water bottles.
‘Decorate your own superhero mask’ station was a huge hit! The craft kit, from Target, came complete with markers, stickers and masks. Other activities included an inflatable obstacle course and a bouncy house.
MegaMind took the day off from protecting Metrocity to come and celebrate with my son! Special thank you to Gabe from Party People, who custom designed the Megamind costume and was so awesome. From his blue head to his leather boots, he really brought the character to life and entertained the guests. Megamind even created little Megamind balloon shapes for the kids!
At the end of the party, I had one Mega Happy 4 year old (with a Spiderman face and a Megamind cape).”
