Summer Kick-off: Crab & Lobster Party

Summer Kick off: Crab & Lobster Party

Let’s celebrate the beginning of summer with a PARTY! That’s exactly what Shawna of Shawna Brockmeier Styled Events did as she kicked-off summer with a Crab and Lobster Themed Party. This party looks like it could grace the pages of a Pottery Barn Kids catalog. It was styled perfectly!

I’m loving the patriotic color palette and nautical influences, including the crab and lobster touches. Using the pirate ship to hold snacks is not only creative, but also practical. I just love the blue fish ice-sculpture too! The fabric touches throughout including the whale pillows, welcome sign, and table runners gives the party a warm and inviting feel. After looking at this, I’m thinking we should “kick-off summer” EVERYDAY so we can celebrate in style and eat sweets too!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Shawna

“I was born and raised in Southern California and we moved to Northern California because my husband is a pilot in the military. We just recently were able to move back home to So Cal. I am so excited to be able to raise my kids in our home town… we found a house with a pool near the beach and the kids are enjoying every minute of the sunshine!

We decided to have a Summer Break Water Party to welcome in the gorgeous weather. We live near Dana Point Harbor where some classic  ‘Tall ships’ reside near the Ocean Institute which offers marine biology camps for the kids.

I used a wooden pirate ship as a center piece on the table to hold snacks and treats. We decided to use tall ships as our central theme and included many nautical items as well….the kids played in the pool, used squirt guns and I purchased this giant sprinkler water ball that floated around the pool spraying the kids!

We had a BBQ where the kids enjoyed hot dogs and hamburgers and enjoyed cool drinks that were in a bucket of ice that also had an ‘ice sculpture’ that I made with the kids using a rubber mold and added blue food coloring to the water! I also had a dessert bar where the children filled up bags of candy and treats to take home at the end of the party. It was a great opportunity to invite new friends over and start a new tradition to celebrate the warm weather with a Summer Break Party each year!”
