PARTY DETAILS, as told by Abigail….

“This Red, White and Blue Party was inspired by my own sense of community – my dream of supporting an old fashioned, down home block party, where we could all come together and share food, company and connection. I wanted to showcase Americana in the spirit of Independence Day by taking vintage items from my daily life, and using them as a backdrop for the party. The 1950s era white and red metal dining table, for example, has been a part of my own history, and that of my parents, for as long as I can remember. The small blue cabinet (displaying fruits and popcorn), was built by my great great grandfather and has been passed from mother to daughter for over 100 years.

When deciding on food and sweets, make it easy on yourself. We purchased rustic handmade pizzas from our local Whole Foods to pair with premade salad, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob and of course hot dogs (for the kids). Snacks were also a snap with fresh fruit served in old fashioned ice cream glasses and boxes of popcorn (always a crowd pleaser).

Setting up comfy areas to relax and have fun can be as easy as throwing a blanket or two out on the lawn. Old fashioned board games or fun group competitions will be a fresh alternative to the tv and video games the kids may be accustomed to. Make sure to set out plenty of flags, pinwheels or pom poms to cheer on passing impromptu parades.

The women collaborating on this event, all brought their strengths to the table. The shining talents of Lisa from Social Couture, Robyn of Porch Pies, Kristin of Meringue Bakeshop and Missy of Missy Marie Photography, all fell into place creating not only a party to remember, but one then to share with friends who might be inspired to gather their own friends and neighbors for their own Block Party.”

These pictures are fantastic! My wheels are turning now with ideas for our annual 4th of July party. Last year I used American themed novelty sunglasses to create centerpieces and people were able to take a pair home with them, they were a hit! Thanks for all the new ideas!

  20. This is incredible. I aim to have no more boring parties after seeing this! Hopefully it won’t cost a pretty penny. Beautiful job, many heads are better than one when it comes to getting ideas together!

  21. Super cute event design and setup! Could work for Americana or country traditional / hoedown theme too.

  22. My neighbor and I just decided that it would be great to plan a block party! So the challenge begins with a flyer going out soon. I am planning on getting your party kit for our block party and to decorate my yard/table. Thanks for making it available. As soon as I know it's going to actually happen, I will be ordering.
