So… this has got to be one of the cutest country western birthday parties I’ve ever seen!
Cleverly dubbed “My Little Buckaroo is Two” by the birthday boy’s mom – Chrissy – this ultra-creative shindig has everything from a “General Store” treat buffet to adorable vintage stick ponies for the pint-sized guests to gallop into the party “cowboy-style”!
There are SO many fun images to share from this party that I’ve got to split this feature into 2 parts to fit them all in!
Stay tuned for details on the fabulous cake & party favor buffet in Part 2! Here goes with Part 1 – Food & Decor – as explained by Chrissy… (more…)
One of the most rewarding things about what I do is getting to see the ideas featured on HWTM actually in use at the parties of others – so thank you for that!
…and this is especially true whenever I spot HWTM printables or Personalized Party Collections in reader photos, because I always remember where I was and what was going on when I first designed those pieces, then think how very cool it is that those same designs made it all the way from that particular moment of mine to the home/party of someone I’ve never met before that might live all the way across the country – or even just around the corner!
Anyways, just had to have a quick sentimental moment this morning. =)
This Cirque Du Bebedessert bar is the perfect example: It was created by Esther from Batch from Scratch, who ordered the personalized Cirque Du Bebe Napkin Rings and used them to create everything from the cupcake toppers and food flags to the favors! (more…)

Oh. My. Goodness. Why, yes… that IS a CURTAIN of colorful origami paper cranes that served as the dazzling backdrop for the wedding of this lucky bride & groom!
And as beautiful as all of these floating creatures look on their own, they seem even more amazing when you learn about the special meaning behind them… all throughout the time they were dating, Jon sent paper cranes to Laura with secret messages hidden inside. Pretty sweet!!
Even if you don’t have the means to fold 1300 paper cranes like Laura did along with the help of family, friends, and a classroom of 5th graders (extra gold stars for them!) – this is still a fabulous idea for parties on a smaller scale too… for example a “Love Birds” engagement party or bridal shower, or a festive holiday soirée.
I’m also loving how the paper cranes look sitting on top of the wheatgrass below… almost like a contemporary flower field! (more…)
Oh my goodness… SO in love with this beautiful & contemporary Orange & Navy Baby Shower by Aisha Holly of Dooby Design Group!
The colors, the mod minimalist flowers, the fabulous use of fonts and pattern in all the paper details (signage, napkin rings, invitations, and menus)…it’s just gorgeous. This would work just as well for a chic bridal shower or wedding too.

Just got back from LA and wanted to share a little sneak peek of what I was up to there yesterday… shooting a “Hollywood Bridal Shower” segment that will be part of a Made of Honor movie special for the FX Networks show “DVD on TV“!
We shot everything at the same location where Patrick Dempsey’s character lives in the movie – which is also where Hannah’s bridal shower was held!
I have to say that it’s seriously amazing how much work goes into tv shows like this – between all the cameras & crew, the lighting, the producers, getting angles just right, etc, etc…It was definitely a long day, but it was also so much fun – even more so since I got to hang out with the fabulousDana LaRue (a.k.a. The Broke-Ass Bride) all day too. She was also there to tape a segment for the show!
I’ll post full details and DIY tutorials from this theme as soon as the show airs on October 25th. In the meantime, here are a few more behind-the-scenes shots and sneak peeks… (more…)

One of my long-time friends (since age 4!) got married recently and asked me to do a candy table for her wedding. The theme of the wedding was sparkly & romantic – lots of bling! – and although the main colors of the wedding were primarily white/ivory & blush with accents of bright pink & navy, she wanted the candy table to be more colorful and play up the bright pink.
I decided to stick with white and pink for the candy colors and use creative details like ribbon bands and candy signs to bring in the navy, which was also the color of the bridesmaids dresses. (more…)
In continuation of the fun gummy candy skewers featured last week, here are the complete details from the fabulous Preppy Beach party created by Stephanie of Couture Parties.
Creative details include fun ideas like a decorate-your-own sailor hat station for the kids, blue jello cups “swimming” with candy fish, and a super-cute homemade banner that Stephanie created by cutting out little fabric “swim trunks” and attaching them to rope with mini clothespins!
Read on for LOTS more pics and all the fun party details, as told by Stephanie… (more…)
For floral centerpieces, it would be cute to line the walls of vases with peanuts (this is also a popular technique for fruit slices). You’ll need a skinny bud vase to go inside a larger cylinder vase. Put the water & flower stems in the bud vase, then fill the gap in between the vase walls with shelled peanuts! (more…)

I’m so excited to share a bridal shower with you today that I threw for a friend last month… who also happens to be getting married this weekend!!
I’ve known the bride-to-be since that first day of kindergarten at age 4 and really wanted her bridal shower to have a playful, whimsical vibe that was reminiscent of our childhood fun… which usually included a lot of sugar, silliness, and time spent outdoors.
After everything came together, the key elements for this “Sunshine and Love” theme included paper parasols, bicycles, fruity candy, mason jars, flowers, and love birds – all brought to life in a sunny yellow & strawberry red color palette!
There are lots of DIY details and recipes to share, so in order to keep this post from being a mile long (or maybe more accurately 2 miles long!), I’ll start with the visual overview today and post additional DIY, recipes, and party printables later. Here we go… (more…)
As a fellow Mad Men fan, I’m LOVING these oh-so-fun party ideas from entertaining guru Jeanne Benedict (who pulls off “Joan Holloway/Harris” quite well, don’t you think?!). Added bonus – three 60’s-inspired recipes are included below too… perfect for pairing with those signature martinis! Read on for all the fun details, as told by Jeanne…
“I’m a big fan of the AMC TV Show MAD MEN, but it was my husband who got this 4th season premiere party together! Ya see, my husband and his college buds went to school with John Slattery, who plays Roger Sterling on the show (one of the head ad guys who just married the young secretary). Apparently, Slattery’s nickname in college was “Slats” because his eyes were like slits when he partied.
As you can see, I dyed my hair redalaJoan Hollowayfor the party and we went with a 1960’s menu from Clams Casino to Fondue! It was a hoot!
Given the graphic nature of this TV premiere party, I wanted to incorporate MAD MEN branding into the tabletop. I printed their classic Don Draper image on to photo paper and wrapped it around a cylinder vase topped with red roses for the centerpiece of the food table. (more…)
