Modern Winter Glam Tablescape

I’m such a fan of the cool “Rustic-Meets-Modern” style of Carissa from JL Designs just check out this amazing winter table she recently styled for a beautiful holiday party coordinated by Jennifer Renee! Although this table was originally created for a holiday party, it’s also full of fantastic (and DIY-friendly) inspiration for New Year’s Eve, winter weddings, and even chic winter bridal or baby showers.

I always love a good outside-the-box shower theme, but it’s even better when the idea is not only wonderfully creative, but ALSO perfectly tailored to the guest of honor! Case in point: check out this fabulous “Nightmare Before Christmas” Wedding Shower dreamed up by Sandra from Maison Des Reves

Sandra is a huge fan of Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, so what better place to draw inspiration for her own wedding shower than this sweet & unconventional, fairy tale love story! And with brilliant details like black raven place cards cleverly perched on water glasses, napkins folded to mimic Jack’s bow tie, the amazing stitches-n-stripes cake pictured above, and much more – I’d say she was definitely inspired!

A Colorful + Crafty Christmas Table

colorful crafty Christmas table ideas

I know that we’re getting really close to Christmas and most of you are probably already all set with your tables, but I still wanted to share this Colorful & Crafty” holiday table that I set up for a casual dinner with my girlfriends this past Friday… it’s REALLY easy to recreate and uses affordable elements like yarn, felt, craft poms, paper napkins, and even {half} a pair of socks!

colorful crafty Christmas table ideas

I’m not sure what my deal is lately, but suddenly I’ve fallen in love with yarn and the cozy, handmade feel it brings… and now I’m trying to work it into decorations every which-way possible!

So… I placed a Yarn & Candy Ornament at each place setting to add a playful vibe to the table. My original plan was to stick a toothpick-flag place card with everyone’s name into the center of each ornament since the middle is a styrofoam ball (wouldn’t that be cute?!), but sigh… I ran out of time before dinner. Maybe there’s still time for you though! =) (more…)

Sock Vase Centerpiece + Painted Branches

colorful modern Christmas centerpiece

Wanted to share a super quick & easy holiday centerpiece/decor idea with you today… I fell in love with all the cute and wonderfully inexpensive holiday socks at Target this year and decided they’d make great “holiday vase wraps” for all those glass cylinder vases sitting in my garage – especially since most of the socks were around only $2 a pair! All you have to do is trim the toes off of one of the socks, then pull it up over the vase… and done!

colorful modern Christmas centerpiece

This playful striped sock vase is one of my favorites due to the faux fur trim at the top. (You could also add a similar trim yourself to any socks using white marabou boa.) I just added some manzanita branches (which I’d already spray painted red for a previous party) and hung a few ornaments that matched our tree onto the branches. (more…)

A {Gorgeous} California Christmas – Part 1

Christmas Dinner Party Wedding Ideas

I’m so excited to share this gorgeous holiday party with you! There’s such great inspiration for Christmas dinners – even winter weddings – to be found here. I attended this get-together last weekend – and it was so much fun to actually see the talents of several amazing vendors up close and personal, and also to meet the lovely guests, which included bloggers, designers, and other wonderfully creative Southern California-based vendors from the wedding & event industry.

Christmas Dinner Party Wedding Ideas

Hosted by Leila of Be Inspired PR, the rustic-meets-modern “California Christmas” theme was concepted & designed by Carissa of JL Designs and Cortnie of Canvas and Canopy, and incorporated beautiful stationery elements by Rachelle of Wiley Valentine. (So not really surprising that it turned out so beautiful, right?!)

There are so many amazing images (courtesy of photographer Leo Patrone) and inspiring ideas to share that I’m breaking this feature into 2 parts. The holiday cocktail and fabulous dinner table will be covered here in Part 1, and Part 2 will feature the party decor, dessert table, and activities/favors.

So here we go with part 1, starting with the fun signature drinks that greeted guests right as they arrived: Icicle Mint Mojitos with candy “icicle stirrers” and the beautifully garnished Jingle Berry “on the rocks”.

Fun Holiday Treat: Candy Cane Cake Pops

Candy Cane Cake Pops

I’ve been wanting to try my hand at cake pops ever since first stumbling upon Bakerella back in February of 2008, but it just never happened. To be honest, I think I was a little scared of how mine would actually turn out. Well, cross this one off the bucket list because it’s finally done!

And yes… I purposefully started with a simple design that promised to be, um… “forgiving” if my melted candy coating didn’t turn out quite so smooth and beautiful as Bakerella‘s. What better way to disguise lumpy cake balls than with a coating of crushed candy canes, right?!

Candy Cane Cake Pops

Well, the white candy melts turned out to be extremely cooperative (hooray!), so I was even able to create a 2nd “smooth” design, replacing the crushed candy canes with little accents of bright red candy melt stripes instead. (You still get the “candy cane” flavor on the 2nd design if you add peppermint extract to the cake batter.) And the “candy cane sticks“? They’re just regular white lollipop sticks wrapped with red ribbon!

Ready to try these yourself? Good, because they don’t just look cute – they’re seriously TASTY too! Instructional pictures + full recipe below… (more…)

Inspiration Board: Rudolph & The Misfit Toys

rudolph holiday party ideas

Wanted to share a some holiday party inspiration with you today… A friend of mine came up with the fun idea of doing a “RUDOLPH & THE MISFIT TOYS” theme for her son’s first birthday party since it’s so close to Christmas. Pretty cute idea for a kids holiday party theme, right?! Here’s a peek at the inspiration board that I’ve been putting together for her, in case you want to add some playful “Misfit Toys” elements to your own holiday party one day…

I’ve gotta admit this was a kind of a tough inspiration board to put together – there are a lot of ideas in my head, but i couldn’t find many party products or past party imagery out there that were tailored to this particular theme. Also, most of the Misfit Toy items I did find were kind of pricey due to the “collectible” aspect of them, which is why I was sooo very happy to come across these adorable Rudolph/Misfit Toy character Plush Dolls AND Bobble Heads for $9-13 each! These little guys will look super cute mixed in with snowy decor & mini evergreen trees and are exactly what we needed to help to solidify the party theme.

rudolph holiday party ideas

So the MAIN ELEMENTS of the decor are shaping up to be: evergreen trees, snow (piles artificial snow, snowball garlands, etc), misfit toy characters, reindeer desserts, wooden signage, and a holiday-themed birthday hat for the birthday boy! I’m thinking either a “Santa Suit“, “Reindeer” or “Hermey the Elf” theme to the birthday hat – whichever mom prefers. I’m also loving these large character buttons as an easy way to play up the theme… either as napkin rings, favor tags, or just embellishments to the candy jars or other party decor: (more…)

DIY: Modern Faux “Table Lamp” Centerpiece

white party centerpiece ideas

I’m working on the full recap of a White Party that I styled last December (inspiration board here), but I wanted to share a separate DIY of one of the centerpiece designs since it’s kind of fun & outside-the-box when it comes to the standard party centerpieces!

This project was for a couple that hosts a holiday party with a “White” theme every year (love this theme for New Year’s Eve too!) – and last year they wanted to do a Miami-style White Party inspired by the posh, contemporary style of the Delano hotel. I didn’t have the budget for elaborate floral centerpieces for the cocktail tables and became determined to come up with some sort of design that eluded to an actual hotel room… hence the faux “modern lamp idea came to be!

white party centerpiece ideas

A few issues in addition to budget constraints: the “lamps” needed to be cordless AND very tall in order to have a dramatic effect on the tent space, and also to ensure that the lamp shades wouldn’t get in the way of guests having conversations. (more…)
