If you’re on the lookout for some fun ideas for an upcoming baby shower – I recently wrote an article on how to throw a “modern nesting” baby shower for thecradle.com – and it went up on their site today! Click here to check it out :)
Hi Everyone – Apologies for the sporadic timing of posts this week…it’s truly been one of "those" weeks – where everything seems to pile up at once as far as work goes, plus we have family in town, and I feel like I’ve been grasping for more hours in the day all week! ;0
Anyways, I’ll be posting some Super Bowl party ideas and recipes over the weekend, and the image above is a little sneak-peek ;)
I’m really excited to start the new week off with a super-mod giveaway from Modern Dose ! The fantastic (and award-winning) Panton chair was originally designed by Verner Panton in 1968 and is one of the iconic designs of the century. Just as much sculptural art as it is furniture, Modern Dose’s version – the "S-Chair " provides the perfect combo of form + function! Available colors include glossy white, red, black, green and orange – and flat red, white, and black.
This week at hwtm, Modern Dose is offering up one of these fabulous S-chairs (which also happen to be featured in this month’s *Domino ) to a lucky reader – a $265 value!! If your home or office could use a dose of hip, artistic flair…here’s your chance! :)
MadeByGirl founder/designer Jennifer Ramos – whose name you might recognize from her gorgeous limited edition coffee table & furniture creations – recently launched a new paper goods collection that features lots of bright colors, sweet sayings, and fun, edgy graphics on greeting cards & digital prints…several of which are very "Warhol-esque" and should definitely appeal to Pop Art lovers!
I just love this football-themed centerpiece idea from InStyle Parties – which by the way is probably my favorite book on entertaining ever. ;) The centerpiece is created from a flat of wheatgrass (available from florists for about $20) and miniature plastic football players and goal posts. So cute and not the least bit cheezy!
BTW – if you’re in the San Diego area – HWTM will be on Streetside San Diego this Friday with some more fun – and contemporary – food & decorating ideas for Playoff and Super Bowl parties :)
I’m so impressed with the adorable Valentine’s Day desserts that are featured in this month’s issue of Parents magazine. So cute and super creative…I can’t stop staring at the butterfly cupcake especially! And with several of the recipes using things like store-bought cake mixes and cookie cutters, they really aren’t as difficult to make as you might expect! (see below for online recipe resources)
You might already be familiar with Interior Style Home from the cool French Bull Giveaway they did with us in December – and I’m happy to share with you that they’re already offering up another cool product in a new Surprise Giveaway: this wonderfully contemporary "Badu Box " home accent – a $110 value ! (more…)
I’m absolutely head-over-heels for this brand-new bubbles dinnerware from cb2. Not only is the design ultra-modern… the price is ultra-affordable! $4.95 dinner plate, $3.95 salad plate, and $2.95 bowl. Get complete service for 8 for less than $100!! I’m going to need more cabinet space…
More new & swoon-worthy picks from cb2:
- graffiti-inspired tag platter & appetizer plates ($15.95 / $4.95)
- glazed slab mug and slab bowls ($1.95 to $2.50) Seriously these prices are ridiculous!
- wood veneer scroll serving tray with a bright orange finish ($15)
- oh-so-clever carton vase, “perfect for dunking one, two or three flowers” ($6.95) These would make SUCH cute table centerpieces for a kitchen-themed bridal shower!
I designed a baby shower for some friends a few months that was particularly special because of the circumstances… The couple had been trying to get pregnant for several years without success, so when it finally happened for them and they found out a little girl was on the way – mom-to-be described the feeling as somewhat "magical ".
She wanted the shower to reflect that kind of feeling – so I came up with this "Whimsical Garden " theme that incorporates all sorts of girlie things like butterflies, rhinestones, metallic vases, and glittery details – as well as unusual organics like oversize moss balls, snapdragons, mini orchids, and stargazer lilies. For details on how to recreate this theme, read on…
If you appreciate a good glass of wine, but are somewhat lost when it comes to anything wine-related other than how your tastebuds are reacting to the current glass in your hand, there’s a great article from Sunset Magazine that is definitely worth checking out. In "Taste Wine Like a Pro ", Sunset wine editor Sara Schneider offers invaluable insight on things like how to pick wine out at a supermarket, how to store wine if you don’t have a cellar, and "what are legs ?". Haven’t the foggiest idea? Click here to find out !
Speaking of wine…wine tasting parties are always a fun excuse to entertain – and great activity ideas for holiday or bachelorette/girls’ night parties. Throwing a wine tasting party is easier than ever these days – with ready-made wine tasting kits you can have delivered straight to your door. For example, this "Tasting Party Time " set from mywinesdirect.com comes complete with six wines, a fun how-to guide, 22 tasting mats, and 6 bottle wrappers:
Looking for a yummy signature drink recipe that’s fun for everyone? Virgin daiquiris and fruit smoothies are great options for get-togethers such as baby showers, kids parties, brunches, spa parties, or anytime you want to offer guests a festive beverage, sans the alcohol. Serve the drinks in fun glasses, garnish them just like a cocktail, and they’ll look just as great as the “real thing” – but cost a lot less! Click below for the full recipes on hwtm.com:
- Virgin Strawberry Daiquiri
- Banana Smoothie
(I love the idea of serving these at a monkey-themed baby shower!)
