It’s no secret that I’m a fan of color, but sometimes pure white is just right… there’s something perfectly simple and comforting about the all-white palette and natural elements found in these dishes and serving pieces from west elm:

i agree…all-white is perfect sometimes! goes with anything too.
Not that I watch Oprah often (and when would I? I work 9-5…) but I was home sick one day awhile ago and there was a special on Oprah with Colin Cowie and his entertaining ideas. And I remember him saying he always recommends plain white plates and tableware, because it’s the perfect backdrop for a beautiful meal presentation. Especially if you cook with colourful foods!
hi laura –
I agree 100%! White dinnerware is the perfect foundation for almost any tablescape – and most people don’t have the budget (or need) to buy lots of different colors of dishes, so it makes sense to make white the staple for your dishware. And Colin is right about the meal presentation too. That’s why most hip restaurants use white plates – the fancy little drizzles and bright sauces & vegetables they use stand out so much better on white. We can pull this off ourselves at home too :)
I love the plain-ness of one color because it’s so easy to accessorize in other colors.
